Ross Dixon (Kilmarnock Barassie) was only three shots adrift of a play off place in the 72 hole Leven Gold Medal, played at the Fife course over the weekend.
Victory went to Kier McNicoll (Carnousite) with a par 3 at the second play off hole, against Wallace Booth (Comrie)and Scott Borrowman (Dollar).
Steven McEwan (Caprington), with rounds of 83 and 72 for 155, missed the 36 hole cut by nine shots. John Shanks (Irvine) also missed the cut on 156 (78/78).

US LADIES GOLF - Pamela Feggans (69) only one shot off the pace in Kentucky

Pamela Feggans was lying joint third at the end of the first round of this week's US Duramed Futures Tour event, the $100,000 Falls Auto Group Classic at London, Kentucky.
The Patna, Ayrshire player had halves of 35 and 34 in compling a three-under-par 69 to be one shot behind the joint leaders, Vicky Hurst from Florida and California's Lisa Ferrero.
Vikki Laing from Musselburgh was back in a share of 42nd place with a 74 (37-37) while Brenda McLarnon from Belfast returned a 77 (39-38) to be in joint 84th place.

AYRSHIRE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - Moultrie beats Moore in extra holes to take 2008 title

Paul Moultrie (Troon Portland)- pictured with his son, and caddie, Calum - is the 2008 Ayrshire Champion Of Champions Trophy winner after a victory in the final at Royal Troon on Friday 8th August, over Brian Moore (Largs), at the second extra hole.
Brian Moore, who won the title in 2006, took the advantage first, having a birdie three at the second to go one ahead. paul Moultrie however was not slow to respond, taking the third hole with a four to level the match.
There was never more than one hole in the match thereafter, although the play in the middle six holes was, by the players own admission, a little scrappy.
In the closing holes the match really stepped up a gear with Brian Moore taking the 13th with a birdie three and the 14th being halved in birdie twos. Pars from both players at the 15th maintained Briian Moore's one hole lead but paul Moultrie squared the match again at the 16th with a birdie four.
Although both players had chances over the closing two holes, both were halved in par to take tha match into extra time.
The first extra hole was halved in fours but at the second Brian Moore bunkered his approach whilst Paul Moultrie safely made the green.
Brian Moore played a good bunker shot to within five feet whilst Paul Moultrie's attempt for birdie slipped just past. Although he had putted well throughout the match, Brian Moore's par putt slipped past the left edge of the hole and paul Moultrie became the 2008 Champion.
In winning the 2008 Champion Of Champions Trophy, Paul Moultrie became only the second player to win both the senior and junior Ayrshire Champion Of Champions titles.
Coincidentally, the only other player to achieve this feat was his opponent Brian Moore who won the junior title in 1994 and the senior equivalent in 2006, a gap of 12 years, whilst Paul Moultrie had to wait 26 years to achieve the double, having beaten Ian Menzies (Kilbirnie) in the 1982 boys final at Ayr Belleisle by 5 & 4.

BOYS HOME INTERNATIONALS - Wooden spoon for Scotland following Wales defeat
Scotland suffered a third successive defeat in the 2008 Boys Home Internationals, played at Royal County Down this week,when they lost out by 9 - 6 to Wales, giving Scotland the wooden spoon in the series.
Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) and Kyle Smith (Kilmarnock Barassie)were again paired in the morning foursomes but went down by two holes to Ben Enoch and Christopher Nugent as Scotland lost the foursomes by 3 - 2.
In the afternoon singles, Michael Stewart got revenge on Enoch, beating him 2 & 1 whilst Kyle Smith lost by the same margin to Rhys Pugh as Scotland lost the singles 6 - 4 and the match by 9 - 6.

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Largs clinch semi final place
Largs eventually sealed their semi final place in the 2008 Ayrshire Junior Golf league Championship competition with a 5.5 - 0.5 home win over Irvine Ravenspark this week.

AYRSHIRE BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - Scott Brown takes 2008 title
Scott Brown (Turnberry)followed his success in the Tom Lehman Junior Open earlier in the week with a victory in the 2008 Ayrshire Boys Championship held at Ayr Belleisle on Thursday 7th August.
A capacity field featuring many of the best young golfers in Ayrshire competed for the Championship over 36 holes, conditions in the morning being particularly testing with a strong breeze and little run on the fairways due to overnight rain.
After the morning round, Sam Findlater (Troon Welbeck) - pictured below - led the field with a one over par 72, which gave him a two stroke advantage from Craig Telfer (Prestwick St. Cuthbert) and Fraser Kerr (Kilmarnock Barassie) on 74.
The eventual winner was one shot further behind after the morning round, on 75, alongside Colin Robinson (Largs).
As the breeze eased in the afternoon, scoring generally improved.
Scott Brown improved by four shots in the afternoon, his level par 71 giving him a total of 146 and setting the standard for other to aim for. Playing alongside Brown, Marc Smith (Kilmarnock Barassie) - pictured below left - just failed to match his fellow competitor, adding a 73 to his morning 76 for a 149 total.
Craig Telfer (Prestwick St. Cuthbert) could not improve in the second round, being one shot worse with a 75 for a 149 total.
Sam Findlater (Troon Welbeck) looked likely to provide the biggest challenge to Scott Brown and when the Welbeck player reached the turn in two under par, he looked to be in pole position, but faded over the latter stages to return a 5 over par 76 for a 148 total and altimate runner up spot.
Fraser Kerr (Kilmarnock Barassie)also failed to improve on his mornign round, being two shots worse with 76 for a 150 total. Kerr provided the last serious challenge to Sciott Brown's total and as the event concluded the Turnberry player secured his second major boys title in three days.
The best nett score of the day was 140, a total matched by three players. Gregor Mackintosh (Girvan) took the best nett prize, by virtue of the best second round, whilst Fraser Kerr (Kilmarnock Barassie) was nett runner up. With Sam Findlater, who also scored 140 nett, taking the overall runners up prize, the third nett award went to Jared Williams (Kilmacolm) on 142.

England now meet Ireland on Thursday, with the winner destined to take the title after the host nation beat Wales by 10 - 5 on Wednesday.

Three of the four qualifying sections have been decided but, due to two postponements recently due to unplayable conditions, largs have still two matches to complete in section B.
Prestwick St. Nicholas still lead Section B on 20 pts, but a final match defeat by 4.5 - 1.5 at Belleisle has left the St. Nicholas hopes depending on a collapse by Largs over their remaining matches.
With a 3.5 - 2.5 win at Belleisle recently, Largs now have 18 points with home matches against Belleisle and Ravenspark still to play, leaving them favourites to qualify.
Semi final matches, played on a home and away basis, are due to be completed by 7th September.

The semi final line up for the 2008 Ayrshire Junior Golf League Under 16 Knockout Trophy competition has been finalised.
In the quarter finals, Ayr Belleisle received a walkover against Ardeer, whilst Ballochmyle and Prestwick St. Cuthbert had 2.5 - 1.5 home wins over Kilbirnie and Largs respectively.
The other quarter final saw Caprington through on the countback against Troon Welbeck after a 2 - 2 draw at Caprington.

AYRSHIRE FOURBALL CHAMPIONSHIP - West Kilbride complete semi final line up
John Campbell & Robin Paton (West Kilbride) completed the semi final line up for the 2008 Ayrshire Fourball Championship when they beat Archie McKie and Archie McKie Jr.(Irvine Ravenspark) by 3 & 2 on Tuesday 5th August in their quarter final tie.

BOYS HOME INTERNATIONALS - Scotland beaten by Ireland on opening day
Scotland, with Ayrshire represented by Kyle Smith (Kilmarnock Barassie) & Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck), lost to host nation Ireland on the first day of the Boys Home Internationals at Royal County Down.
The Irish team overturned a morning deficit from the foursomes to win by 8.5-6.5.
Michael Stewart combined to gain a point in the morning foursomes and Stewart maintained his record by winning his afternoon singles by 1 hole. Smith was not so fortunate in the afternoon, losing his sinnges match heavily.

SGU AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - Shanks secures Ayrshire win with 2 - 2 finish
John Cairney, John Shanks, Stephen McBlain, David Addison, George Robertson, Cameron GrayAyrshire made it two wins from two in the 2008 SGU Area Team Championships, on Sunday 3rd August, when they defeated the North East Area at Prestwick St. Nicholas.
The morning foursomes were shared 1.5 – 1.5 with George Robertson and David Addison being defeated by Anthony Bews and Scottish Internationalist James Byrne, Steven McBlain and John Cairney winning against Glenn Taylor and Alan Reith whilst John Shanks and Cameron Gray shared the spoils with Mark Halliday and Philip McLean.
In the afternoon singles, the North East took the early lead, James Byrne defeating Stephen McBlain in the lead match by 3 & 2 and Philip McLean beating David Addison by 4 & 3.

George Robertson, with a 2 & 1 win over Anthony Bews which was undoubtedly assisted by his luminous green trousers, and Cameron Gray who beat Mark Halliday 4 & 2 brought the match back to level.
John Cairney, playing in the final tie, had a 3 & 2 win over Glenn Taylor to give Ayrshire a 4.5 – 3.5 lead overall, and the result of the match rested with the final tie on the course between John Shanks and Alan Reith.
Reith held a one hole lead at the 16th and Shanks had the opportunity to square the match with a short put, but failed in his attempt, leaving him one down with two to play.Shanks then produced the perfect finish, driving the 17th green to set up an eagle two to square the match and then hitting his tee shot at the last to 15 feet and holing the put for a winning birdie two, to give Ayrshire a match win of 5.5 – 3.5
Ayrshire now face Argyll & Bute in the last match of the series, at Troon Portland on Sunday 21st September where they will be hoping to secure enough to progress to the semi finals of the competition in October.

AYRSHIRE YOUTHS - Youth team defeated by Florida State
An Ayrshire Youths side were defeated 3.5 - 1.5 by the Florida State University team on the opening day of their tour of Scotland, on Sunday 3rd August.
The University side, who are scheduled to play a number of links courses during their trip, including Turnberry, Carnoustie, Muirfield and North Berwick, are all + 1 handicappers.
They opened their schedule with a round at Turnberry (Kintyre) on Saturday before Sunday's match at the birthplace of The Open Championship, at Prestwick.
The match proved a friendly and worthwhile encounter for both sides, with the players enjoying the match in glorious weather.

AYRSHIRE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - Moore and Moultrie for final
The final of the 2008 Ayrshire Champion Of Champions competition, at 5.00 p.m. on Friday 8th August at Royal Troon will be between Brian Moore (Largs) and Paul Moultrie (Troon Portland).
In the semi finals, played over Royal Troon on Friday 1st August, 2006 trophy winner Brian Moore beat Alex Gourlay (Irvine) 3 & 2 whilst Paul Moultrie had a one hole win over George Robertson (Irvine Ravenspark).

The Moultrie - Robertson semi final was particularly close throughout. Robertson birdied the 16th to square the match but Moultrie immediately restored his lead with a birdie 2 at the 17th.

AYRSHIRE SUMMER LEAGUE - Ravenspark lead in semi final
In the first match played in the semi finals of the 2008 Ayrshire Summer League, 2007 finalists Irvine Ravenspark recorded a 4.5 - 1.5 win at home against their semi final opponents Caprington.

SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - McEwan faces Macaulay in final
On Friday afternoon at Carnoustie, Steven McEwan (Caprington) became the first Ayrshire player to reach the final of the Scottish Amateur Championship since clubmate Hugh McKibbin lost the final in 1995 at Southerness, having won the trophy a year before at Renfrew.
Mc Ewan had a 3 & 2 win over Gordon Yates (Hilton park) to set up a final showdown with number one seed Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan).
In the 36 hole final on Saturday, McEwan and Macaulay remain all square after the first round.

GLENMUIR PGA TOURNAMENT - McKinnon finished 7 off the pace
Jim McKinnon (Irvine) finished with a 72 for a 290 total in the Glenmuir PGA Professional Tournament at Moportown, Leeds, this week.
In a tornament hampered by heavy rain, Craig Ronald (Carluke) was top Scot, tying for seventh place on 287.
After a play-off the title went to Paul Simpson who beat Andrew Barnett at the second extra hole.

SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - McEwan in semi finals
Steven McEwan (Caprington) booked his place in the semi finals of the Scottish Amateur Championship, being played at carnoustie this week, with a 1 hole victory over Scott Borrowman (Dollar) in the quarter finals. McEwan was 5 up at one point in the match but Borrowman fought back, although McEwan held on to win at the last hole.

Craig Murdoch & Andy Reid (Ayr Carrick) beat Charlie Bell & Andy paton (Braehead) in their Ayr derby match, and now the Ayr carrick duo face an away match against either John Campbell & Robin Paton (West Kilbride) or Archie McKie & Archie McKie Jr. (Irvine Ravenspark).
In the other matches played recently, Alex Gourlay & Colin Kennedy (Irvine) beat Eric & Martin Bradford (Ballochmyle) by 5 & 4 and now have a semi final match at home against Chris & Alan Bone (Loudoun), who secured their place in the last four with a 2 & 1 home win over Mark Hyslop & Steven Bolland (Tam O Shanter)
