PRESIDENT'S PUTTER - Ayr Neptune through to last eight

Ayr Neptune are the latest club to book their place in the last eight of the Ayrshire handicap club team knockout competition for The President's Putter.

Playing at home to Prestwick St Cuthbert in the third round, the Ayr neotune team won through by 2-1 in the match.

In the quarter finals Ayr Neptune are at home to either Kilbirnie Place or Caprington, who play on Sunday 1st July in the one remaining third round match still to be completed.

AYRSHIRE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - Paul Denim through to semi finals

Paul Denim
Paul Denim (Loudoun) is the first player to book a place in the semi finals of the 2018 Ayrshire Champion Of Champions Trophy competition.

Beaten in the final of the competition in 2016, Denim secured his place in the last four this year with a 2&1 win over Adam Sweeney (Largs Routenburn) at Loudoun.

In the semi final, at Royal Troon on Friday 3rd August, Denim will face either the Ayrshire Strokeplay Champion Jim Johnston (Ayr belleisle) or he Ayrshire Golf Association president John Rushbury (Rowallan Castle) 

SCOTTISH SENIOR WOMEN'S OPEN STROKEPLAY - Glennie wins as Ayrshire players are to the fore at Prestwick St Nicholas

Ayrshire players were to the fore at the Scottish Senior Women's Open Strokeplay Championship, played at Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club, on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th June, with Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) winning the title and Liz Keohone (Loudoun) returning the best nett total of the championship. 





Glennie regained the title she last won in 2011 recovering from an opening day score of 80, which included only one birdie, with a second round score of 70 where she recorded birdies at the third, fourth, seventh, 10th and 11 in a round which was ten shots better than her opening effort and gave her the title by a single shot over the first round leader Frances Millar (Carnoustie Caledonia).

Seven handicapper Keohone's nett total of 140 took the top handicap award, and, along with Glennie she qualified for the matchplay championship which takes place on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th June, again over the Prestwick St Nicholas links.

In the first round of the matchplay championship on Thursday morning, Alex Glennie plays Fiona De Vries (St Rule), whilst Liz keohone plays Maureen Richmond (Royal Liverpool) and Donna Jackson (Troon Ladies) plays Frances Millar (Carnoustie Caledonian).

In the opening round of the handicap matchplay competition, which runs in conjuction with the matchplay championship, Ros Purdom (Prestwick St Nicholas ) plays isla McCrone (Turnhouse) whilst Joanne Sharp (Kilmarnock Barassie) plays Sandra Littlejohn (Erskine).

PRESIDENT'S PUTTER - Three more clubs through to quarter finals

Three more clubs have booked their places in the quarter finals of the Ayrshire handicap club team knockout competition for The President's Putter.

Ayr Neptune were 2-1 winners at home to Prestwick St Cuthbert at the weekend, and will now be at home to either Kilbirnie Place or Caprington, who will play their third round tie on Sunday 1st July.

Also through are Brunston Castle who were 2.5 - 0.5 winners at home to Moorpark. The Brunston Castle team now visit Rowallan Castle in the last eight.

Redburn were also 2.5-0.5 home winners over the trophy holders Ballochmyle in the remaining third round tie, and will now visit West Kilbride in the last eight.


GARY BRYDEN SALVER - Holders ousted as quarter final line up is confirmed.

Title holders Prestwick St Cuthbert were beaten at home in the Ayrshire scratch club team knockout competition for The Gary Bryden Memorial Salver this week, as the line up for the quarter finals was confirmed.

The St Cuthbert team were at home to Ayr Dalmilling, but were defeated 2.5 - 0.5 by their visitors, who can now look forward to a home tie in the quarter finals against Rowallan Castle.

Ballochmyle will host Troon Welbeck in the quarter finals after both team won their second round matches 3 - 0. Ballochmyle were away to Troon St Meddans whilst Troon Welbeck were at home to Ardeer.

Caprington are also through to the last eight following a 2-1 home win over Prestwick St Nicholas, and will now visit Loudoun in the quarter finals.

AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - Moorpark withdraw from Division 4

Moorpark have withdrawn from Division 4 of the Ayrshire Scratch Leagues.

To date, the club had played no matches in their section, and issues with providing a full complement of players for forthcoming matches led the club committee to take the decision to withdraw from the league this year.

The four remaining teams will continue to contest Division 4, with the winners gaining direct promotion to Division 3 next season and the runner up going into a play off for a place in Division 3.

AYRSHIRE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP - Revised draw for West Kilbride

The draw for the Ayrshire Club Championship, to be held at West Kilbride Golf Club on Sunday 1st July, has been subject to some alteration, involving the latter pairings, to include a team from Royal Troon.

Since the draw was originally published it came to light that the entry from Royal Troon appears to have been lost in the post.

The Royal Troon team have now been included in the event, with some alteration to the later pairings.
