WEE WONDERS - Ruben Lindsay wins age 11/12 British title

Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle) won the 2016 Wee Wonders British Championship for boys aged 11/12 at the Strathtyrum course in St Andrews over the weekend of 27th and 28th August.


After an opening round of level par 69, Ruben was four shots adrift of the leader with seven holes to play but finished strongly in tough, windy conditions, to return a one under par 68 in the second round and take first place.

AYRSHIRE CLUB TEAM SCRATCH KNOCKOUT COMPETITION - Prestwick St Cuthbert join Loudoun in inaugural final.

The inaugural final of the Ayrshire Club Team Scratch Knockout competition will be between Prestwick St Cuthbert and Loudoun.

The Prestwick club joined Loudoun in the final courtesy of a 2 - 1 home win over Girvan in their semi final clash recently,

WEST OF SCOTLAND UNDER 18 INTER COUNTY LEAGUE - Slim title hopes for Ayrshire going into final group of matches

Following their defeat away to Lanarkshire in their penultimate match in the 2016 West Of Scotland Under 18 Inter County league, for the David Wishart Trophy, Ayrshire cannot now win the title this year.

Title challengers Lanarkshire face Stirlingshire at Easter Moffat on 4th September whilst Ayrshire take on Dumbartonshire at Annanhill on 11th September.

Defending champions Renfrewshire lead the table at present and face a possible title showdown with Glasgow at Ranfurly Castle on 11th September.

DOC THOM AYRSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT - Stamper still on course for title with one event remaining.

Steven Stamper (Turnberry) remains on course to take the Ayrshire Order Of merit title and Doc Thom Salver, with just one counting event remaining to be played this year.

There was no change at the top of the table following the two most recent counting events. In the Stevenson Trophy at Girvan, William McMeikan of the host club took maximum points with a winning scratch score of 65.

Allan Brownlee (Brunston Castle) was joint second with Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle) with a score of 69, with brownlee's day being made even more memorable with a hole in one at the fourteenth hole during his round.

In the Viking Krus competition at Largs, host club member Fraser Innes took maximum points with rounds of 66 and 69 for a total of 135, leaving him six shots ahead of his nearest challengers.

The final counting event of the season is The Arrol Cup at Prestwick St Nicholas on Saturday 17th September.

In the latest event to be included, the Tom Lehman Trophy event over the Troon Muicipal courses, Jack Broun continued his dominance of the table by taking full points, whilst Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock Barassie) moved into third place in the table courtesy of his second place finish in the event.

John McCracken (Irvine) recorded a hole in one at the tenth at the Lochgreen course during the competition.

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Kilmarnock (Barassie) through to league Championship final.

Kilmanrock (Barassie) have booked their place in the final of the Ayrshire Junior Golf league for the third year in succession.

Home wins by 4 - 2 and 4.5 - 1.5 over Ballochmyle and Loudoun respectively, and a 5.5 - 0.5 away win over Prestwick St Cuthbert saw the barassie team win Section B with a game still to play.

In Section A, Turnberry are favourites to take the other place in the final, in their first season in the competition.

Recent home wins by 5 - 1 and 4 - 2, over West Kilbride and Troon Welbeck respectively, put Turnberry in a strong position and with the slim hopes of Troon Welbeck and West Kilbride ending with their 3 - 3 draw at Troon only Ayr Belleisle can overtake Turnberry, though they will need to win both their remaining fixtures.

In the JUNIOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY competition, Euan Ferguson (Turnberry) is through to the final after beating Andrew Shaw (Prestwick St Cuthbert) in a close semi final match at St Cuthbert, the final winning margin being two holes.

Ferguson now awaits the winner of the second semi final between Graeme Greer (Prestwick St Nicholas) and 2015 Ayrshire Boys Champion Craig McKenzie (Troon Welbeck).

The finals of both the League Championship and Junior Champion Of Champions Trophy are scheduled to take place at Kilmarnock (Barassie) on Sunday 25th September.

In the UNDER 16 KNOCKOUT TROPHY competition, both semi finals have still to be played, with Ayr Belleisle taking on Kilmarnock (Barassie) and Ardeer playing Turnberry.

In the WALLACE THORNTON TROPHY semi finals, Troon Welbeck hold a 4 - 0 advantage over Turnberry after the first leg match away from home, whilst Ayr Belleisle lead by 2.5 - 1.5 against Kilmarnock (Barassie) following the first leg at Belleisle.

The finals of the Under 16 Knockout Trophy and wallace Thornton Trophy are scheduled to take place at Kilmarnock (Barassie) on Sunday 11th September.
