WEST OF SCOTLAND INTER COUNTY BOYS LEAGUE - Second round fixture conceded to Renfrewshire

The first fixture in the second round of ties in the 2024 West of Scotland Inter County Boys League, for the Wishart trophy, has been conceded to Renfreswshire by Glasgow, who advised their hosts that they were unable to raise a team for the fixture, due to be played at Cochrane Castle GC on Sunday the 2nd of June.

As per the rules of competition, a 5-3 win was awarded to renfrewshire, for countback purposes.

The other two fixtures in the second series of ties are scheduled to take place later in June.

Lanarkshire are scheduled to host Stirlingshire at Easter Moffat on the 16th while Ayrshire host Dumbartonshire at Ayr Belleisle on the 23rd.

Three further rounds of fixtures are scheduled to take place in July, August and September, to determine the 2024 league champions.

DOC THOM AYRSHIRE MEN'S ORDER OF MERIT - Graeme Gimson leads at half way stage

Graeme Gimson (Prestwick St Cuthbert) has moved into the lead in the Ayrshire Men's Order of Merit, for the Doc Thom Salver, with half of the 20 qualifying events this season now completed.



A joint third place finish in the recent Belleisle Cup moved Gimson to the top of the table, ahead of Steven McCreadie Jr. of Ayr Belleisle (pictured) who moved into second place following a two stroke victory in the Corum sponsored Belleisle Cup with a two round total of 136.

Alan Mclean (Largs) moved into third place in the order of merit following his fifth place finish at Belleisle.

The next two counting events are the Mcgilchrist Cup at Ardeer on the 15th of June and The Gowf Cup at Loudoun on the 30th of June.

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Latest results and semi final draws

Fixtures in the Ayrshire Junior Golf League competitions for 2024 continue, while the draws have been made recently for the semi-finals of two of the championships.

In THE AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, the final place from Section A is still very much up for grabs, while West Kilbride have secured their final place from Section B.

In SECTION A, Prestwick St Cuthbert boosted their hopes with a 3.5-2.5 win away to Kilmarnock Barassie recently, to keep the pressure on joint section leaders Turnberry and Ayr Belleisle.

In SECTION B, West Kilbride had a 4-2 win away to Troon Welbeck in their penultimate fixture of the qualifying section, which secured their place in the final of the championship for 2024.

In the UNDER 16 KNOCKOUT TROPHY results from three of the four second round matches, due to be completed by the 30th of June, have still to be posted.

 

The draw for the semi-finals is:-

Prestwick St Nicholas or Turnberry vs Prestwick St Cuthbert

 

In the WALLACE THORNTON TROPHY, two first round match scores have still to be posted.

Kilmarnock Barassie Vs. West Kilbride

In the AYRSHIRE JUNIOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY competition, Ryan Kennedy (Loudoun), the title holder, won his first round tie at home to Josh Erskine (Caprington) at the third extra hole, and received a bye into the semi-finals after Ballochmyle scratch from the event.

Royal Troon’s Scott Newman (Ayrshire Boys Champion) beat Jack Broadfoot (Troon Welbeck) in their first round tie, and is due to play either Sean Hillis (Kilmarnock Barassie) or Luke Jones (Prestwick St Nicholas) in the second round, the result of the latter match still to be confirmed.

The other second round ties, due to be completed by the 30th of June, see Aidan Hay (Irvine) at home to Connor Wills (Ayrshire Boys matchplay Champion)  and Gregor Hay (Ayr Belleisle) at home to Finlay Watt (West Kilbride).

The semi final draw for the competition will be made at a later date.

AYRSHIRE WOMEN'S HANDICAP LEAGUE - Latest positions in qualifying sections

The two qualifying sections in the 2024 Ayrshire Women's handicap League Championship are under way, with several fixtures having been completed, as clubs bid to top their respective sections and qualify for the championship semi finals in August.

In SECTION A, Loudoun lead the way, having recorded successive home wins by 3-1 over Kilmarnock Barassie and Ballochmyle and secured a 2-2 draw in the return fixture away to Kilmarnock Barassie.

 All qualifying section matches are due to be completed by the 4th of August with home and away semi finals, involving the winners and runners up in each section, due to be completed by the 25th of August with the winners of each semi final contesting the final in ealry September.
