AYRSHIRE BOYS MATCHPLAY - Broun's double bid ended in semi finals.

Ayrshire Boys Champion Jack Broun (Ayr Belleisle) failed in his bid to add the Ayrshire Boys Matchplay title on Wednesday 10th August at Prestwick GC, when he lost out in a tight match against Kyle Brown (Turnberry) in the semi finals.

The opening four holes were shared, Kyle Brown winning the first with a par four and the third with a birdie four whilst Jack Broun won the second with a birdie two and the fourth with a birdie three. After the fifth was halved in par threes, the sixth and seventh were exchanged and the closing two holes of the outward half were halved to leave the match all square at the turn.

The match remained tight in the inward stretch, with no more than a hole between the players, and by the sixteenth, the match was again all square.

At  the sixteenth, Kyle Brown was conceded a six inch putt for a birdie and went one up in the match with two holes remaining.

Jack Broun had a chance to square the match at the seventeenth after Kyle Brown found trouble with his second shot, and was only able to reach the green, four feet above the hole, in four, whildst jack Broun was a similar distance away in three. Kyle brown however holed a difficult putt for a fiv eand jack broun was unable to convert his par putt.

Jack Broun needed something special at the final hole and produced the goods when he drove the green and two putted for a winning birdie three to take the match into extra holes.

Having agree to play the first and eighteenth holes as the extra holes, the first was halved in par fours, and at the eighteenth, the second extra hole, Kyle Brown drove to the edge of the green whilst Jack broun was wide right. Jack Broun chipped up to six feet, but missed his putt for a three and Kyle brown's chipp was close enough to prompt Jack Broun to concede a winning birdie three.

The final, on Thursday 11th August, will be an all Turnberry affair after Euan Ferguson (Turnberry) had a crushing win over Charlie Cameron (Ayr Belleisle) in the second semi final.

Despite opening with a winning birdie three, and both players losing balls in the Pow Burn in the early holes, Charlie Cameron lost a ball and the hole at the fifth and lost the sixth to a birdie three to go two down. Another lost ball at the seventh, and a double bogey at the eight put Charlie Cameron four down.

Charlie Cameron's situation was typified at the ninth when his shot from a bunke on the approach to the green hit the flag and deflected into another bunker, leading to a fifth successive lost hole and a five hole defecit at the turn.

The first hole of the inward nine was no better for Charle Cameron, a double bogey six putting him six down, but to his credit he kept fighting, the deficit being reduced to five following a winning birdie three.

Euan Ferguson restored his six hole advantage with a birdie four at the twelfth and a good par four at the difficult thirteenth  hole was good enough for Euan ferguson to take the hole for a 7 & 5 victory and a place in the final.

The final will take place on Thursday 11th August at Prestwick Golf Club, teeing off at 4.30 p.m.
