SCOTTISH BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - Notable Ayrshire performances in round one at Fraserburgh

There were several notable performances in the opening round of the 2026 Scottish Boys Championship on Wednesday the 15th of July at Fraserburgh.

The lead in the first round of the two round strokeplay qualifying stage was shared by Alexander Yuill (Gullane) and Fraser Brown (Nairn) with a three under par score of 67.

Three Ayrshire players were well placed in equal fourth place after returning scores of 69, one under par.

Jenson Fergusson (Royal Troon) staged a remarkable comeback from a poor start, being four over par after three holes. In the remaining fourteen holes Jenson had a single further bogey at the twelfth hole, but had six birdies in the other thirteen holes played to give him a great chance for a high finish after round two.

Jenson was joined on one under par by Archie Baker (Prestwick St Nicholas) who had four bogeys, three birdies, and an eagle at the fifteenth hole in his round, and Gregor Hay (Ayr Belleisle) who was three under par after four holes on his way to a one under par total for the round.

The next best placed Ayrshire player was Harris Vennard (Ayr Belleisle) in joint thirteenth place after a one over par round of 71.

76 (+6) - Mason Chisholm (Irvine), Ryan Steven (Ayr Belleisle) - Joint 54th place.

78 (+8) - Thomas Carlyle (Turnberry), Finlay Watt (West Kilbride) - Joint 76th place.

80 (+10) - James McNeallie (West Kilbride) - Joint 93rd place.

81 (+11) - Findlay Andrew (Turnberry) - Joint 102nd place.

83 (+13) - Connor Hunter (Prestwick St Nicholas) - Joint 114th place.  

The second round of strokeplay qualifying takes place on Thursday the 16th of July, with the top 64 players progressing to the matchplay stages.
