AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION COMPETITIONS - Two days to go until entries close for 2020 events

Clubs have just two days remaining to submit entries for the six extended Ayrshire Golf Association competitions in 2020.

Clubs have until the end of the coming week to enter the six extended Ayrshire Golf Association competitions for the 2020 season, with the closing date being Friday 31st January.

Entry forms were sent to club secretaries in early November 2019, along with the annual subscription forms. Any club secretary needing further copies of the forms should contact the Association Secretary ASAP at ayrshire.golf@btinternet.com.

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION - Invoices sent out to clubs

Invoices for the 2019 - 2020 annual susbcription to the Ayrshire Golf Association have been sent out to member clubs on 20th January.

All subscriptions are due for payment by 31st March 2020.

Any club who has not received their subscription invoice should email the Association Secretary at ayrshire.golf@btinternet.com

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION EXTENDED COMPETITIONS - Eleven days remaining to enter six Ayrshire events

Clubs have eleven days remaining to enter the six Ayrshire Golf Association extended competitions, which are played throughout the summer and culminate in the Finals Day in early September.

Entry forms for the six events were emailed to club secretaries at the beginning of November 2019, along with the annual subscription data form.

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION YEARBOOK - Advertising opportunity in 2020 edition

The 2020 edition of the Ayrshire Golf Association yearbook, the seventeenth consecutive annual edition,  will be launched at the Association's Annual Dinner on 21st February this year, and opportunities are still open for advertisers to support the publication.

Companies, clubs or individuals can still secure advertising space in this year's edition, and support the continued production of the yearbook.

The yearbook is distributed free to the member clubs and golf courses throughout Ayrshire, with the potential of reaching 15,000 or more potential customers for advertisers.

If any clubs, businesses or individuals are interested in the possibility of advertising in the yearbook, they should contact the publishers, Ayrshire media Services of Troon, as soon as possible  by email at info@ayrshiremedia.com who will be able to advise on availability and pricing.

MyGolfRanking.com - Clubs invited to join or re-register for 2020

MyGolfRanking.net, the countrywide ranking site for clubs and club players is seeking to encourage more clubs to join, and existing clubs to re-register.

The individual behind the organisation, former Scottish Golf Union President David Moir, writes:-

I am seeking to re-establish as many of the Ayrshire Golf Association's clubs as possible in MyGolfRanking.net (MGR). MGR is a free service to all competitive handicap golfers and clubs run by my company, in League with Golf Ltd.

The registration requirement was caused by the necessary adherence to GDPR which was initially a grey area for most clubs and MGR, and the uncertainty resulted in our taking a “better safe than sorry” stance and a resultant de-registration of many clubs from our system.

Fortunately these grey areas are no longer grey and our worries are now allayed, but, unfortunately for MGR, many Scottish golf clubs remain unregistered.

Details have been forwarded by the Area Secretary to the Secretaries of all member clubs, outlining how to register for MyGolfRanking.com for the forthcoming season if desired.

COURSE RATING - Ayrshire seeking volunteers to assist

The Ayrshire Golf association is seeking volunteers to assist in the servicing of the Course Rating Scheme on the courses throughout the county.

For some background on the Course rating Scheme, the Ayrshire Golf Association's team leader Mike Hazlewood has provided the information below.

COURSE RATING VOLUNTEERS

Ayrshire Golf Association require a minimum of four Course Rating personnel to calculate Standard Scratch Scores and Slope Indices for all courses that are used for Qualifying competitions in the County. 

What is Course Rating?

Course Rating is a core service that is provided to all golf clubs affiliated to Scottish Golf.

The process determines the playing difficulty of a golf course for a scratch golfer under normal course and weather conditions.

It is expressed as a Standard Scratch Score (SSS) and a Slope Index which is provided for all sets of tees from which qualifying competitions are played.

The SSS and Slope Index is also the cornerstone of the current and coming soon the new World Handicapping System based on the performance of the field within each qualifying competition. 

How is the Standard Scratch Score and Slope Index Calculated?

The USGA Course Rating System is used to determine the SSS and Slope Index. It is very objective in nature taking into account all the factors that affect the playing difficulty of a course. It requires numerous specific measurements to be taken on each hole of the golf course, which assists in the consistency of application by course rating teams.

The system is designed to differentiate playing difficulty of all courses relative to each other, which requires a consistent application by all course rating teams.

The USGA Course Rating System takes account of the actual measured length of a golf course, factors that can affect the playing length and other challenges that influence the playing difficulty of each hole (obstacle factors).

Tickets are now available for the 2020 Ayrshire Golf Association Annual Dinner & Presentation of Trophies.

This year's event takes place at Prestwick St Cuthbert Golf Club on Friday 21st February at 6.30 for 7.00 p.m.

The guest speaker for the evening is former football manager Jim Leishman who managed Dunfermline, Montrose, Inverness and Livingston at senior level and was awarded an MBE in 2007 for services to sport.

Tickets are priced at £17.50 each and are available from the Ayrshire Golf Association Secretary on a first come first served basis.

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION EXTENDED COMPETITIONS - Entries close in eighteen days

Entries for the six extended Ayrshire Golf association competition, which are played throughout the 2020 season, close in eighteen days, on 31st January.

Entry forms were emailed to all member clubs with subscription forms on 1st November 2019.

Any club secretary needing further copies of the entry forms should contact the Ayrshire Golf Association Secretary.

DUNDONALD LINKS - Club joins The Ayrshire Golf Association following sale to new owners

Dundonald Links are the latest club to affiliate to The Ayrshire Golf Association following the sale of the course by Loch Lomond Golf Club to Darwin Leisure last year.

Previously falling under the auspices of the Dumbartonshire Golf Union, the move to The Ayrshire Golf Association brings the number of member clubs in the county to sixty three.

The Association looks forward to welcoming the participation of the members of Dundonald Links in the various county competitions scheduled in 2020.

Clubs are reminded that entries for the six extended Ayrshire Golf association competitions in 2020 close on 31st January 2020.

WEST OF SCOTLAND INTER COUNTY LEAGUES - Mixed fortunes in final fixtures for Ayrshire teams

The Ayrshire A team completed their final fixture in the 2019 West of Scotland Inter County League on Sunday 20^th October, beating Stirlingshire 6 – 2 at Prestwick St Cuthbert.

Ayrshire held slim hopes of the title going into their final fixture, needing a 6.5 – 1.5 win or better to have any chance of taking the title, but Stirlingshire were in pole position going into the match, looking for their first win in the West League since 1995.

Ayrshire started well, taking 2.5 points from the opening three ties before suffering their first loss of a tie with William Fleming’s defeat by 2&1.

The home side took the last three ties comfortably, leaving the match standing at 5.5 – 1.5 with only Barry O’Rourke’s tie still on course.

The final tie to be decided went all the way to the last hole where O’Rourke held a one hole lead as they approached the final green.

With O’Rourke lying six feet from the hole with a chance of a birdie, it looked good for an Ayrshire win in the tie but in a crushing blow to the home side his opponent holed a chip shot over a greenside bunker to win the hole and half the tie which, more importantly for both sides, left Stirlingshire just ahead of Ayrshire in the title chase.

One final postponed match remains to be played in this year’s A League, with Renfrewshire hosting Lanarkshire at paisley on Sunday 27^th October. Only win by Lanarkshire by 6 .5 – 1.5 or better would prevent Renfrewshire retaining the title this year.

In the corresponding youths league match, played at Tulliallan GC, Ayrshire went down by 6 – 2 to their Stirlingshire hosts.

Despite being awarded a point after the home side were reduced to seven players after a late call off only Greg Cathie & Aiden Long, with half points each, added to the Ayrshire total.

WEST OF SCOTLAND INTER COUNTY LEAGUES - A team draw and Youths beat Lanarkshire in penultimate fixtures

The Ayrshire A team fought out a 4 – 4 draw with Lanarkshire at Strathaven on Sunday 13^th October 2019, in their penultimate fixture in this years West of Scotland inter county league matches.

The Ayrshire team lost four of the first five ties, with only Scott Brown securing a win, but the last three Ayrshire players all secured victories to tie the match overall.

In the corresponding youths match at Troon Darley, a late call off saw Lanarkshire concede one of the eight ties to Ayrshire, with Sandy Walker being awarded a win.

Further wins from Greg Telfer in the lead tie, along with Greg Cathie and Ross Caddis, and a crucial half point won by Rob Yorston saw Ayrshire win the match 4.5 – 3.5 overall.

The teams play their final matches in the series on Sunday 20^th October which are the rearranged contests against Stirlingshire which were postponed on Sunday 6^th October.

The Youths will travel to Tulliallan GC in their final fixture whilst the A team will be at home to

Stirlinghsire at Prestwick St Cuthbert GC, in a change of venue from the original postponed match.

WEST OF SCOTLAND INTER COUNTY LEAGUES - Both Ayrshire matches postponed in week 4

Both the Ayrshire A and Ayrshire Youths matches against Stirlingshire, scheduled to take place on Sunday 6th October have been postponed.

Heavy overnight rain throughout the country, which has seen the cancellation of many other golf fixtures, saw the A team match at Kilmarnock (Barassie) GC and the Youths match at Tulliallan GC being postponed due to course closures.

The youths match has been rescheduled for the same venue, Tulliallan GC, on Sunday 20th October and the venue for the resceduled A team match, on the same date, has still to be confirmed.
