The first round matches in the 2021 Ayrshire Champion of Champions Trophy competition were completed at the weekend, with the 16 second round matches due to be played by the 4th of July.
Steven McEwan (Caprington) won at the first extra hole on his visit to play Stephen Murray (Troon Portland) and is now at home to Maurice Mulholland (Doon Valley), who went through to round 2 courtesy of a 5 & 4 win over Robert Cruickshanks (Moorpark).
Shaun Hedget (West Kilbride) won 6 & 5 against Scott Fleming (Stewarton) and is now at home to Andrew Thomson (Routenburn) in round 2.
Single hole victories were good enough to see John Haggarty (Loudoun) and Tom Reid (Stewarton) through against Sandy Buchanan (Prestwick St Nicholas) and Paul O'Neil (Beith) respectively, whilst Sam Findlater (Braehead) and Steven Stamper (Turnberry) had easier passages into round 2, with victories by 6 & 4 and 5 & 4 against Andrew MacDonald (Auchenharvie 88) and Andrew McLuckie (Glacier) respectively.
Jamie Murchie (Beith) booked his 2nd round spot with a 3 & 2 win against his host Colin Watson (NB Parkstone).
The other three ties were settled by walkovers being awarded, Connor Martin (Braehead), Paul Giffney (Ardeer) and Brian Gibson (Muirkirk) going through against Kevin Thomas (Troon Welbeck), George Higgins (West Kilbride) and Adam Cambers (Ayr Dalmilling).
