Alan Harrington (Western Gailes) was the best placed Ayrshire player in the Scottish Seniors Golfing Society Winter Series Order Of Merit following the final 2016 Scottish
Seniors Golfing Society Winter Series event was held on Friday 1st
April at a wet and windy Prestwick St Cuthbert.
Joint winners of the final event were Ian Johnston (Williamwood) and George Barrie
(Callander) with 34 points.
Best placed
Ayrshire players at Prestwick St. Cuthbert were Donnie Lindsay (Kilmarnock Barassie), who was 5th on 32
pts, Ricky Gray (Rowallan Castle), who finished 9th on 31 pts and John
Broadfoot (Turnberry), who was 15th with 29 points.
The penultimate
event of the series took place in March, also in Ayrshire, and the winner, with
35 points, was a former Beith Club Champion Jim Paterson, who now plays out of
Ranfurly Castle GC.
Host club member Tom Sirel led the Ayrshire challenge that day, finishing second equal with 34 points.

(Western Gailes) was 6th equal at Largs on 33 points with Ricky Gray (Rowallan Castle) a
place further back on 32 points and John Broadfoot (Turnberry) 14th equal on 31
points. Keith Ross (Beith) was one of the backmarkers scoring 25
points.
The Order Of Merit over the SSGS Winter Series was won by current SSGS Matchplay Champion
Gordon MacDonald (Glenbervie).

The Scottish
Seniors Golfing Society fixtures for the season start at the end of April with
the Spring Meeting at Monifieth Golf Club, with a handicap ballot at 6.5 being
required to reduce a record entry of 160 to the maximum of 141. There are nine
Ayrshire players in the field for te opening fixture.
