AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - Prestwick St Cuthbert lead the way in Division 1

All three Ayrshire Scratch leagues are now under way, as teams contest the three league championship trophies throughout the summer.

In DIVISION 1, Prestwick St Cuthbert followed up their opening win over irvine with a second successive home win, beating Largs by 4.5 - 1.5. irvine got their campaign back on track with a 5-1 home win over Loudoun in their latest fixture.

In DIVISION 2, Troon Portland lead the way after a third successive win, by 4.5 - 1.5 away to Troon St Meddans, following their opening two wins by 4.5 - 1.5 at home to Ardeer and by 3.5 - 2.5 away to West Kilbride, while Ayr Belleisle maintained their own unbeaten start with successive home wins over West Kilbride, by 6-0, and Turnberry, by 4-2.

In DIVISION 3, Girvan opened with a 3.5 - 2.5 home win over Troon Welbeck but lost their second fixtureat home to Prestwick St Nicholas by 4-2.

PRESIDENT'S PUTTER - Last sixteen line up confirmed.

The line up for the last sixteen of the handicap club team knockout competition for The President's Putter has been confirmed as all the second round matches were completed last week.

The eight third round matches are due to be completed by the 30th of June.

GARY BRYDEN MEMORIAL SALVER - Last sixteen line up confirmed

The line up for the last sixteen of the scratch club team knockout competition for the Gary Bryden Memorial Salver has been confirmed after completion of the first round ties last week.

Kilmarnock Barassie had a 3-0 home win over Rowallan Castle to set up a home tie in round two against Redburn, who recorded a notable 2-1 away win against West Kilbride in round one.

Troon St Meddans won the forst round tie against near neighbours Troon Welbeck by  3-0 to set up a home match with Largs in the next round while a 3-0 home win over Ardeer gives ballochmyle a home tie in round two against Loudoun.

THE AYRSHIRE JUG - Third round line up confirmed after completion of second round matches in mixed greensomes competition

The second round matches in the 2024 mixed greensomes knockout competition for The Ayrshire Jug have been completed, and the third round line up confirmed.

The results of the second round ties, and the schedule of third round matches, to be played by 30th June, are:-

AYRSHIRE WOMEN'S CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - Quarter final line up confirmed

The quarter final line up for the 2024 Ayrshire Women's Champion of Champions Trophy competition has been confirmed.

In the first round matches, Alexandra Sargent (Skelmorlie) won at the second extra hole on her visit to play Gillian Henderson (Ayr Belleisle Ladies), while title holder Debbie Watt (Ayr Belleisle Ladies) had a walkover against Catherine Malcolm (Prestwick St Cuthbert)

Pauleen Partick (Irvine) has already progressed from the quarter finals, winning her tie with Alyson Hunter (Ballochmyle) by 5&3.

AYRSHIRE MEN'S CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS - Second round matches completed

The second round matches in the 2024 Ayrshire men's Champion of Champions Trophy competition have been completed, with the line up for the last sixteen now confirmed.

Title holder Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle) remains on course to defend the title after a 4&3 home win over Jamie Monaghan (Girvan) in round two. His defence continues with an away tie against Kenny Doherty (Routenburn) for a place in the quarter finals.

2021 champion Steven McEwan (Caprington) is also through to the last sixteen, fololowing a 3&2 away win over 2023 Ayrshire Matchplay Champion Kevin Thomas (Troon St Meddans).

DOC THOM AYRSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT - Chesney and Brown lead the way after six events.

Ayrshire Strokeplay Champion Gavin Chesney (Kilbirnie Place) and Iain Brown (Largs) lead the way in the chase for the Doc Thom Salver and Ayrshire Order of Merit title, with six of the twenty one counting events completed.

An eighth place finish in the West Kilbride Open moved Brown up to level points with Chesney at the top of the table, just twenty points ahead of three other players, including ben Gibson (Kilmarnock Barassie), who took maximum points at West Kilbride with a scratch score of 67.

Graeme Gimson (Prestwick St Cuthbert) moved into joint sixth place after positing the leading score, a four under par 67, in the open competition at his home club on Sunday the 26th of May.

WELSH OPEN YOUTHS CHAMPIONSHIP - Scott Newman shines at Bull Bay

Ayrshire Boys' Golf Champion Scott Newman (Royal Troon) shone over the weekend of the 24th to the 26th of May at Bull Bay Golf Club in Wales, where he finished in third place in the Welsh Open Youths Championship.

Opening rounds of 71 and 70 saw him paired in the final pairing in the last round alongside runaway championship winner, Englad's  Sam Marshall (St Neotts).

A final level par round of 70 gave Newman a one over par total of 211 for the 54 hole tournament, which was only bettered by Marshall, on nine under par, and Samuel Johnston (Astbury), who finished with a three under par round of 67 to edge a couple of shots ahead of Newman.

An excellent performance in an international championship from Scott Newman.
