AYRSHIRE MEN'S HANDICAP LEAGUE - Seven of eight qualifying sections under way.

Seven of the eight qualifying sections in the 2024 Ayrshire Men's Handicap League Championship are under way, as clubs bid for a place in the final at Ballochmyle in September.

In SECTION 1, Routenburn lost 4.5-1.5 at Troon Portland but bounced back with a 4-2 home win over Alton, who themselves had opened with a good 4.5-1.5 away win against Tam O Shanter.

AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - Ayr Belleisle open with resounding win

Ayr Belleisle opened their challenge in the Ayrshire Scratch League Division 2 with an emphatic win recently.



Hosting West Kilbride in their opening fixture of the campaign, the Ayr Belleisle team recorded a 6-0 win to get their challenge off to the best of starts.

  

PRESIDENT'S PUTTER - Four more clubs through to round three

Four more clubs have booked their place in round three of the Ayrshire handicap club team knockout competition for The President's Putter.

Troon St Meddans won 2-1 on their trip to face Annanhill and will be at home to Ardeer in the last sixteen.

West Kilbride had a 2.5-0.5 home win over Caprington to progress while Rowallan Castle progressed with a 2-1 home win over Irvine Ravenspark.

Also through are Irvine who were 3-0 home winners over Prestwick St Cuthbert in round two.

The remaining ten second round ties are due to be completed by the 26th of May.

GARY BRYDEN MEMORIAL SALVER - Kilbirnie Place first through to quarter finals.

Kilbirnie Place are the first club to book their place in the quarter finals of the 2024 Ayrshire scratch club team knockout competition for the Gary Bryden Memorial Salver.

Playing away to Troon Portland in the second round, the Kilbirnie Place team won the two of the ties and the other was subsequently declared a half, with the result of the match already decided, and a match score of 2.5-0.5 was recorded.

With the first round matches due to be completed by the 26th of May, Largs booked their place in round two, where they will be away to either Troon St Meddans or Troon Welbeck, with a 3-0 win away to Caprington in the first round.

Four first round ties remain to be completed.


 

THE AYRSHIRE JUG - Five more pairs through to round three of mixed greensomes knockout competition

Five more pairings are through to the third round of the Ayrshire mixed greensomes knockout competition for The Ayrshire Jug.

The seven remaining second round ties are due to be completed by the 26th of may.

Eight of the sixteen pairings who will contest the third round of the Ayrshire Fourball Championship have secured their places, with the remaining second round matches due to be completed by the 26th of May.

AYRSHIRE MEN'S CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY - Five more players through to round three

With the second round matches due to be completed by the 26th of May, five more players have booked their places in the third round in recent days.

Title holder Craig Hamilton (Ballochmyle) had a 4&3 home win over James Monaghan (Girvan) to secure a third round visit to either Routenburn or Turnberry.

Stuart Miller (Kilmarnock Barassie) will be at home against the representative of either Prestwick St Nicholas or Stewarton in round three, after his single hole second round victory on his visit to play Steven Smith (Loudoun).

David Pratt (Annanhill) beat James McIntyre (Redburn) by a single hole in their second round tie while William Fleming (Ballochmyle) progressed with a 3&2 home win over Robert Adams (Abbotsford).

Joe McSorley (Prestwick St Cuthbert) had a home win over Cameron Gray (West Kilbride) by 7&6 to set up a home tie against Alan Smeeton (Tam O Shanter) in round three.

WELL DONE LAWRENCE - Ayrshire Golf Association mark hole in one achievement at Men's Strokeplay Championship

Ayrshire Golf Association Past President Scott Gilchrist took the opportunity today, Saturday the 11th of May, to present a framed certificate to Lawrence Ngoma (Loudoun Gowf Club) to mark his recent hole in one during the Ayrshire Men's Strokeplay Championship held at Largs Golf Club on Sunday the 28th of April.

Lawrence achieved his hole in one during the first round of the championship at the 161 yard eighth hole of the Kelburn course.

Well done on your achievement Lawrence, and hopefully the certificate will be a lasting memento of your perfect shot.
