AYRSHIRE SENIORS LEAGUE - Largs edge out Kilbirnie for title with last match win

Largs GC are the 2017 Ayrshire  Seniors League champions following an extremely close battle with Kilbirnie Place, which was only decided at the last fixture of the season.

In the final match of the season, Largs needed a victory over Troon Welbeck at Troon to take the title ahead of Kilbirnie and the Largs team delivered with a 4 - 1 win in the match to secure the championship on points difference, after ending the table tied with Kilbirnie Place on 20 points.

AYRSHIRE SCRATCH LEAGUES - Match disputes take shine off conclusion of 2017 leagues

The 2017 Ayrshire Scratch leagues have been concluded, with the conclusion of  Division 1 being marred by two fixture disputes, on which the AGA Executive had to rule before the tables could be concluded.

In DIVISION 1, following the decision on the two matches concerned which saw one being awarded to the home team and one being treated as an abandoned match, Prestwick St Cuthbert were confirmed as title winners whilst West Kilbride will drop down to Division 2 next season.

 In DIVISION 2 there were no issues, with Irvine Ravenspark winning the title and promotion to the top tier next year whilst Largs will drop into Division 3.

In DIVISION 3, one match result remained outstanding, and despite efforts by the league administrator to get a result or information on the fixture, none was forthcoming. Conssequently the AGA Executive ruled that the match be declared abandoned.

Troon Portland won the title and will move up to Division 2 next season whilst Kilbirnie Place will drop into Division 4.

AYRSHIRE FOURBALL CHAMPIONSHIP - Troon Welbeck win 2017 title

Troon Welbeck are the 2017 Ayrshire Fourball Championship winners, following a close final, played at Loudoun Gowf Club on Friday 29th September.

In the final, the Troon Welbeck pairing of Ian Smith & Steven Miller faced the Ayr Belleisle duo, Andy Brown & John McBean.

Welbeck took the early lead at the second but the match was squared again when Belleisle won the fourth. The Ayr duo then took two further holes by the ninth to turn for home with a two hole lead.

Smith and Miller dug in however and managed to square the match again by the finteenth and completed a great fightback by winning the final two holes for a two hole victory in the match.

The match was played in the best of spirits and the players gave match referee Ricky Magee no worries throughout.

At the conclusion of the match, Ayrshire Golf Association Vice President John Watt presented prizes to all four finalists before handing the trophy over to the winning pair from Troon Welbeck.
