AYRSHIRE SENIORS LEAGUE - Four clubs still in title chase

The chase for the 2016 Ayrshire Seniors league is hotting up, with four clubs still in a position to take the title this year.

Ballochmyle and Ardeer are locked together at the top of the table following Ballochmyle’s 4 – 1 home win over Ardeer in August, whilst West Kilbride and Loudoun are close behind.

SCOTTISH CLUB HANDICAP CHAMPIONSHIP - Brodick head qualifiers at Irvine Ravenspark

The Isle of Arran's Brodick Golf Club, represented by Marc McLelland, who plays off 6, and 15-handicapper James Reid, led the 10 qualifying pairs from a field of 36 couples at the Scottish Club Handicap Championship Regional Qualifier at Irvine Ravenspark Golf Club recently.

The qualifiers, which included two other Ayrshire clubs, go forward to the Grand Final at The Carrick on Loch Lomond on October 14.

McLelland and Reid had a better-ball net score of four-under-par 67 - one shot better than Ayr Dalmilling(George Campbell 8, Robert Milby, 12) and Clober (Grant Rutherford 8, William Valentine 9).

The other qualifiers were:

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR ORDER OF MERIT - Jack Brown finishes with another win

Jack Broun (Ayr Belleisle) capped his season in the Ayrshire Junior Order Of Merit with another win in the final qualifying event, The St Nicholas Junior Open, earlier in September.

Jacks' four under par scratch score of 64 gave him maximum points for the sixth time this season and confirmed his place as the leading boy golfer in Ayrshire this year.

The six counting event wins came at Largs, Prestwick St Nicholas, The Tom Lehman Junior Open, Ayr Belleisle, Prestwick St Cuthbert and the Ayrshire Boys Championship.

Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle), with four counting events including a win at Loudoun, took second place in the Order Of merit, just ahead of Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock Barassie) who also counted in four events en route to his third place finsh.

US COLLEGE GOLF - Scots help Missouri University to win US title

Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) and Rory Franssen (Nairn) played their part as members of the five-strong University of Missouri men's golf team recently, who won the annual Turning Stone Inter-Collegiate tournament for the fifth year in a row at Turning Stone Resort, Verona in New York State.

Missouri totalled 852, seven ahead of runners-up Texas A&M, with Toledo (875) a distant third in the field of 14 teams.

Walker tied for third place on 213 - five behind the winner from Texas A&M - with scores of 69, 76 and 68 for three-under 213.

Freshman Franssen, from Inverness, making his debut in US college golf, shot steady rounds of 74, 72 and 73 for 219 and a share of 13th place in the field of 70 players.
