|Champion Of Champions semi finalists|
John Rushbury & Paul Denim,
With Gary Steele already through to the final by virtue of a walkover, only the semi final between Paul Denim and John Rushbury (Rowallan Castle) took place at Royal Troon this Friday, 3rd August.
Paul Denim took the lead at the second hole with a par four, but a bogey five at the third from Denim allowed Rushbury to square the match, before Rushbury established a quick two hole lead by taking both the fourth and fifth with pars.
Rushbury kept his two hole advantage until the last two holes of the half which he lost to Denim to allow the Loudoun player to square the match at the turn.
The wind became a considerable factor as the players turned or home and a bogey five at the tenth and a conceded hole at the eleventh allowed Denim to take a two hole advantage early in the half.
A par four at the thirteenth was enough for Rushbury to reduce the deficit to one hole and he squared the match once more at the fifteenth when a par four was enough to win the hole.
The sixteenth was surrendered by Rushbury who could only manage a double bogey seven to go one down again, with two to play, but again Rushbury won the penultimate hole to go to the last all square.
At the final hole it was Paul Denim who coped better with the pressure to win the hole and the match by a single hole and progress to the final.
The final is scheduled to tee off at 5.00 p.m. on Friday 10th August.
