SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Stuart Robin caries Ayrshire hopes into the quarter finals.

Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Cuthbert) will carry Ayrshire hopes into the quarter finals of the 2015 Scottish Amateur Championship at Muirfield on Friday morning, after the fourth and fifth rounds were completed on Thursday and saw the other two remaining Ayrshire players bow out.

Robin played Colin Martin (Balbirnie Plark) in the fourth round on Thursday morning and ran out a comfortable winner by 5 & 3 to set up fifth round tie against Chris McLean (Balmore) in the afternoon. In a close match, Stuart Robin prevailed by 2 & 1 to book his place in the last eight of the national championship for the first time.

In the quarter finals on Friday morning, Robin plays Daniel Young (Craigie Hill).

Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) beat Fraser Davren (Williamwood) by 4 & 3 on Thursday morning to secure a place in the last sixteen, but lost out to the 2001 champion Barry Hume (Haggs castle) on the final green in the afternoon, by a single hole, in his bid to reach the quarter finals this year.

The other Ayrshire player to reach the fourth round, John Shanks (Irvine) was ahead at the turn in his Thursday morning match with David Mitchell (Leven Thistle), but eventually lost out to his opponent by a single hole.

The quarter finals and semi finals are scheduled to be completed on Friday, with the 36 hole final on Saturday.
