Both the Scotland Womans and Scotland Girls team had a
disappointing opening day in their respective European Team Championships on
Tuesday 7th July, leaving both teams well off the pace in the bid
for reaching the top flite Matchplay stages.
In the womans championship at Helsinger Golf Club in Denmark, Scotland’s best five scores from six
totalled 378, leaving them trailing the leaders Switzerland by a full 21 shots,
and crucially seven shots adrift of the final qualifying place for the top
flight Matchplay group.
Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) returned a 75, the third best
of the Scotland team scores on day one.
The Scotland team scores were:-
Rachael Taylor (70), Heather Munro (74), Connie
Jaffrey (75), Jess Meek (79), Clara Young (80), Rachel Walker
(83)
In the European Girls Team Championship at Kaskada Golf
Resort in the Czech Republic, none of the six strong squad broke 80, leaving
Scotland well adrift in fifteenth place after round one, 50 shots behind the
leaders from Spain.
Ayrshire players Emma Hale & Hazel McGarvie (both Troon Ladies) each contributed
scores of 81 towards the Scotland teams total of 406.
