Jack McDonald |
Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) added to his impressive golf CV as a member of the winning team. As well as being Scotland's top scorer in the strokeplay qualifying, McDonald contributed five points from a possible six over the three matchplay rounds of the competition.
For the second day in succession, McDonald contributed two points from two, combining with Graeme Robertson for the third day in a row in the morning foursomes to win 2 & 1 and keep their 100% record intact as a foursomes pairing in the championship.
Grant Forrest & Ewen Ferguson crushed their opponents 7 & 5 in the morning to give Scotland a commanding 2 - 0 lead going into the afternoon singles, and leaving the team needing just two points from five in the afternoon for victory.
When Greig Marchbank lost heavily and Ewen Ferguson was defeated 2 & 1 in the afternoon the match was leveled but Jack McDonald turned the tide back in Scotland's favour with a 2 & 1 win leaving Grant Forrest with the honour of winning his match on the final green to guarantee victory for Scotland. With the destination of the title decided, Connor Syme's tie was declared halved, giving Scotland victory by 4.5 - 2.5.
