AYRSHIRE JUNIOR ORDER OF MERIT - Pollock Trophy at Kilmarnock (Barassie) cancelled due to lack of entries

The Pollock Trophy at Kilmarnock (Barassie), a counting event for the Ayrshire Junior Order Of Merit, has been cancelled due to an extremely disappointing level of entries this year.

The competition was due to be played on Tuesday 26th July but with only a handful of entries from other club members, over and above the home entries, the decision has been taken by organisers to cancel the event once again.

With no Ayrshire players featuring in the higher places in the recent West Of Scotland Boys Championship, The present positions in the Ayrshire Junior Order Of Merit, correct as of Sunday 17th July, are :-

100 EWAN MILLIGAN Kilmarnock (Barassie)
100 JACK BROUN Ayr Belleisle

Counting events for the remainder of the month include the Loudoun Junor Open (18th), the West Kilbride Junior Open (19th), Troon Welbeck Junior Open (22nd) and the Prestwick St Nicholas Junior Open (25th).

COMMENT
The cancellation of the Pollock Trophy highlights a growing trend in junior golf in the county of lack of support for open competitions and in particular in entering events in good time to let organisers make the necessary arrangements.

This problem is not confined to club events, with the entry for the Boys County Championship being ridiculously low, with less than a week to go until the closing date.

Comments would be welcome on this or the facebook post on what the players see as the issue, and any suggestions as to how the support of junior opens in the county could be improved.

Maybe good idea for juniors to be able to apply for entry online.
