BELLEISLE CUP - Victory for Jim Johnston over home course

The 36 hole Corum Belleisle Cup, a counting event in the Ayrshire Order of Merit, was contested on Sunday 2nd June 2019 with host club member and Scottish internationalist Jim Johnston taking the trophy.

2019 Belleisle Cup winner Jim Johnston
flanked by Ayr Belleisle Captain Victor Sproat and Colin McCrossin of the sponsors Corum.

In difficult morning conditions, Craig Telfer of Prestwick St Cuthbert and Jim Johnston of Ayr Belleisle shot 4 under par rounds of 67 to lead by 4 from Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) and Steven Manning (Pollok) after round one.

The second round was played in dry but blustery conditions with Johnston scoring 67 once again for a total of 134, to beat previous winner Smyth by 3 shots.

Smyth had a best of the day score in the afternoon of 66 for a total of 137 but that was not enough to prevent Johnston from retaining the trophy he won last year.

Special thanks from the host club go to Corum Property & Estate Agents for their continued support of this competition and Ayr Belleisle Golf Club. The club would also like to record thanks to Kevin Johnston and his staff for an excellently prepared course which drew many plaudits from all of the competitors.
