2012 Ayrshire Boys Matchplay Champion Greg Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert) |
Up against the defending champion Callum Beveridge (Troon Welbeck) in the final, Telfer won the trophy with a 9 & 8 scoreline, the biggest winning margin in the history of the event.
The model of consitency, Telfer recorded pars at all ten holes played, whilst Beveridge, with a combination of slack putting and wayward tee shots, could only record a par at the third hole, for his only half of the match, and had bogeys at all the other holes on his way to a crushing defeat.
The win in the matchplay final topped a superb week for telfer which began on Tuesday with a win in the Tom Lehman Trophies competition at Troon Municipal before cmpleting the first rounfd of the matchplay the same evening.
A win over the new Ayrshire Boys Champion Euan Walker on Wednesday evening in the matchplay semi final was followed by a win at the Ayr Belleisle Junior Open at Seafield on Thurday morning before winning the matchplay championship final on Thurday evening in some style.
