Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) was the closest Ayrshire challenger to winner Greig Marchbank (Dumfroes & County) in the Scottish Boys Strokeplay Championship held at Cardross this week, although the Ayrshire challenge didn't really materialise during the week, Walker finishing a full 16 shots off the pace.
One of only three Ayrshire players to qualify to play all four rounds, Walker statrted brightly with a 71 in the first round but followed his opener with three successive 74's to drop down the field.
