The two Ayrshire players still in the Scottish Girls Championship, being played at Blairgowrie GC this week, bowed out in the semi finals on Sunday morning, 21st July.
Freya Russell (Royal Troon) lost 2 & 1 to the eventual winner Katy Alexander (Blairgowrie) by 2&1 in their semi final, in a match where she showed great spirit to fight back from five down after seven to square the match by the fourteenth before eventually losing out.
Russell was out of sorts early on and a run of four holes over par, with three bogeys and a double bogey contributed to her going five behind by the seventh. She did steady her game from the low point of being five behind and successive pars at the eighth and ninth were good enough for her to reduce the deficit to three holes at the turn. Birdies from Russell either side of a bogey by Alexander over the next three holes saw Russell win three in succession to square the match for the first time since the second hole, but in the closing stretch bogey fours at the two par threes at fifteen and seventeen saw Russell lose out by 2 & 1.
In the other semi final Rachel Foster (Prestwick St Nicholas) was up against Eilidh Henderson (Loretto School) and exited the championship following a 6& 5 defeat in the match.
Foster took the lead at the second when Henderson double bogeyed against Foster's bogey five, but two bogeys and a double bogey over the next four holes saw Foster slip to two behind after six. Though the seventh and eighth were halved in pars, a birdie three at the ninth from Henderson extended her lead to three holes and heralded a run of four birdies in five holes which secured her a 6& 5 win over Foster, and a place in the final on Sunday afternoon, which she eventually lost by 3 & 2 to Katy Alexander
