NORTH OF SCOTLAND AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - McDonald cruises to win and tops Order Of Merit

Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) won the North Of Scotland Amateur Championship on Sunday 25th August at Nairn GC by an impressive seven shots, which also saw him top the SGU Order Of merit table.

(Report from the Cal Carson Golf Agency)

Jack McDonald was an impressive winner by a record seven-stroke margin of the North of Scotland Amateur Stroke-play Open for the David Blair Trophy at Nairn Golf Club today (Sunday).

The Kilmarnock Barassie man had rounds of 69, 66, 73 and 66 for a 14-under-par total of 274.

His second-round 66 for nine-under 135 gave him an eight-stroke halfway lead which was reduced to three by Scott Borrowman over the third round in which the Dollar man peaked with a 68 to the leader's 73.

But McDonald, the SGU Order of Merit winner in 2011 and lying second to James White (Lundin) before the Nairn event, surged clear again with a repeat of his brilliant six-under-par 66 in the closing round.

So Jack won the David Blair Trophy and a £400 prize voucher.

Borrowman, from the Dollar club, finished runner-up on 281 with rounds of 72, 71, 68 and 70. His voucher was worth £300.

James White was four shots behind Borrowman in third place on 285 with scores fo 72, 72, 69 and 72 to receive a £200 voucher.

Craig Ross (Kirkhill and Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm) both finish on level par 288. Fourth place voucher of £150 went to Ross with the better last round, a 70 to Clark's 71.

Irishman Eugene Smith from Ardee finished sixth on 290, a shot ahead of Adam Dunton (McDonald Ellon) - third in the Order of Merit table before the event -  and two better than the highest placed North finisher, Jordan Milne (Elgin) on 292.

The CSS was 74 for every round.

Fog delayed the start of the last day's play by an hour.
