SCOTTISH BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - Ayrshire hopes end in quarter finals

Ayrshire's hopes of crowning another Scottish Boys Champion ended in Friday morning's quarter finals when the two remaining county players lost out in their bid for a place in the last four.

Staurt Easton (Irvine) faced the challenge of number one seed Ewan Scott (St Andrews New) and it was the top seed who played some inspired golf on the way to a 5 & 4 victory.

Scott went two up over the opening four holes against his Ayrshire opponent, but he then had a run of four successive threes, to give him three under par figures through holes 5 to 8, which extended his lead to four holes over Easton. Scott closed out his opponent with a birdie two on the 14th hole to give him three under par figures for the holes played.

In the semi finals, Scott will face Ben Kinsley (St Andrews New) who ended the hopes of the other Ayrshire player in the quarter finals, Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie).

A run of three bogeys over the opening seven holes saw Walker two down and his deficit was increased when Kinsley birdied the eighth to go three ahead. Walker reduced the deficit to two at the turn with a winning par at the ninth and further reduced the arrears at the eleventh before Kinsley restored his two hole advantage with a birdie three at the twelfth.

As holes ran out, Walker again reduced the deficit to one hole with a birdie three at the fifteenth, but a bogey at the following hole saw Kinsley restore his two hole advantage with two holes to play, and a par four at the seventeenth was enough for a halved hole to give the St Andrews player a 2 & 1 victory.

The second semi final will be between Ben Craggs (Glenbervie) and number two seed Bradley neil (Blairgowrie)
