SCOTTISH BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - Mixed fortunes for Ayrshire players on day 2

There were mixed fortunes amongst the Ayrshire players in action on day 2 of the 2013 Scottish Boys Championship, being held at Monifieth this week.

Tuesday saw the conclusion of the first round matches, which resulted in only two of the remaining seven Ayrshire players going through to the second round.

Shaun Hedger (West Kilbride) lost out to Callum Connacher (Wishaw) by 4 & 3 whilst Callum Gorrie (Kilmarnock Barassie) was defeated 2 & 1 by Zac Wood (Nigg Bay).

Stewart Russell (Kilmarnock Barassie) also bowed out in the first round, beaten one hole by Glen Burnett (Haggs Castle).

Andrew Webber (Lenzie) took the scalp of Jack Thomas (Irvine), who recently made his Scotland Under 16 representative debut, with a 2 & 1 win over the Ayrshire player whilst Jack Purdie (Largs) was no match for the second seed Bradley Neill (Blairgowrie), losing out by 9 & 8 in their first round encounter.

Darryl Lynch (Ayr Belleisle) went through to the second round courtesy of a walkover and now faces Patrick McKenna (Royal Aberdeen) in round 2 on Wednesday, whilst Ayrshire's only first round winner on Tuesday, Adam Wilson (Ayr Belleisle), secured his place in round two with a 3 & 2 win over Rob Paterson (Kilspindie). In the second round, on Wednesday morning, Wilson faces Duncan Samson (Lochmaben)

Four of Ayrshire's first round winners on Monday were in second round action on Tuesday afternoon and the county players enjoyed a 100% record with all four securing their place in the third round on Wednesday afternoon.

First Ayrshire player through to round three was Murray McCrone (Troon Welbeck) who defeated Josh Halliday (Stonehaven) by 7 & 5 to set up a third round meeting with first seed Ewan Scott (St Andrews New).

Also through to round three is Stuart Easton (Irvine) who won at the 19th against Robert Watson (Muckhart). Easton now plays Aidan Fortune (Roxburghe) in round 3.

The other two Ayrshire players through to round 3 have ensured that there will be at least one Ayrshire representative in round four. Elliot Masterson (Kilmarnock Barassie) beat Zack Bedford (St Andrews New) by one hole and now faces fellow Ayrshireman Louis Murray (Troon Welbeck) in round four after Murray defeated Connar Cook (Caird Park) to set up the all Ayrshire meeting.

The remaining second round ties and all third round ties are scheduled to be completed on Wednesday, with Blair Gavin (Kilmarnock Barassie), Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie), Adam Wilson (Ayr Belleisle) and Darryl Lynch (Ayr Belleisle) all in action in the remaining second round ties on Wednesday morning.
