Stuart Easton (Irvine) finished tied fifth in the Scottish Mens’
Open Strokeplay Championship at the Duke’s, St Andrews, played from 23rd
to 25th August.
Opening rounds of 69 and 74 saw Easton safely make the half
way cut and he closed with two rounds of 68 for a five under par total of 279,
leaving him seven shots adrift of the winner Jake Bolton (Ogbourne Downs GC)
from England.
The half-way cut fell at 145, three over par, and the five
other Ayrshire players in the field failed to make the cut mark.
Jack Broun (Turnberry) had rounds of 70 and 76 to miss the
cut by a single shot whilst Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle) followed an opening
round of 75 with a second round 72 to miss the cut by two shots
Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock Barassie) had rounds of 72 and 76 to
finish three off the cut mark, whilst rounds of 80 and 73 left Sandy Buchanan
(Prestwick St Nicholas) well off the pace at the half way stage on 11 over par.
The other Ayrshire player in the field who missed the cut
was Jim Johnston (Ayr Belleisle) who finished 14 over par after opening rounds
of 82 and 74.
