AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE - Competition updates

The Ayrshire Junior Golf League competitions are well under way this season, with the quarter final draws for two events being made this week.

In the JUNIOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS competition, The opening round matches saw home wins for Fraser Murray (West Kilbride) and Kyle Brown (Turnberry), by 2 & 1 and 8 & 6, over Jamie McKinnon (Caprington) and Shawn McBride (Prestwick St Cuthbert) respectively.

Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock Barassie) won away from home, by 7 & 6, against Elliot Spence (Loudoun) whilst Ayrshire Boys Strokeplay Champion Jack Broun also had an away win, by 2 & 1, over Ross McDonald (Irvine).

The opening round tie between Declan Chalmers (Ballochmyle) and Ayrshire Boys Matchplay Champion Euan Ferguson was not played by the due date, rsulting in both players being scratched from the tournament.

The draw for the quarter finals is :-

Luisa Gibson (Ardeer) Vs. Blair Fleming (Troon Welbeck)
Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle) Vs. Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock Barassie)
Jack Broun (Ayrshire Boys Champion) Vs. Kyle Brown (Turnberry)
Fraser Murray (West Kilbride) receives a bye into the semi finals.

All ties are due to be completed by Sunday 5th August.

In the UNDER 16 KNOCKOUT TROPHY competition, the three first round matches saw West Kilbride beat Ballochmyle 4 - 0 whilst the other two matches went to sudeen death play offs after finishing drawn 2 - 2. Kilmarnock Barassie won the play off on their visit to Ayr Belleisle whilst Prestwick St Cuthbert beat their visitors from Loudoun at the second play off hole to go through.

The draw for the quarter finals is :-

Troon Welbeck Vs Ardeer
Kilmarnock Barassie Vs. Turnberry
West Kilbride Vs. Caprington
Prestwick St Cuthbert Vs. Irvine

All ties must be played by Sunday 5th August.

In the WALLACE THORNTON TROPHY competition, the opening round matchplay ties, based on the results of the Ayrshire Junior Team Championship, are due to be completed by Sunday 30th July, and are played on a home and away basis.

The scheduled matches are:-

Prestwick St Cuthbert Vs. Turnberry
Ballochmyle Vs. Kilmarnock Barassie
Loudoun Vs. Troon Welbeck
Irvine Vs. Caprington.

In THE AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, only one fixture has been completed in the qualifying sections so far, with defending champions Turnberry losing out narrowly by 3.5 - 2.5 on their visit to West Kilbride.
