Ayrshire lead Dumbartonshire 2 - 1 after the morning foursomes in the final of the Scottish Area Team Championships at Blairgowrie today, Sunday17 May, as the county side bid for only their third win in the competition, following their title successes in 1986 & 2008.
Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) and Scott Brown (Turnberry), playing in the second tie, got the first point on the board for Ayrshire with a 5 & 4 win over Steven Stewart and James Wilson.
Keith Hamilton (Ayr Belleisle) and Tommy McInally (Loudoun) lost out by 3 & 2 to Ewen Ferguson & Angus Carrick as Dumbartonshire levelled the match score at 1 - 1.
The Ayrshire advantage in the match was assured in the final foursomes tie when John Shanks (Irvine) holed a long birdie putt on the fifteenth green to give him and his partner, Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Cuthbert) a 4 & 3 victory over Chris McLean and George Duncan.
The final concludes on Sunday afternoon with the closing six singles matches.
