SCOTTISH BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP - Ayrshire trio through to last 32

The Ayrshire trio of Jack Thomas (Irvine), defending champion David Wilson (Troon Welbeck) and Blair Gavin (Kilmarnock Barassie) are through to the last 32 of the Scottish Boys Championship at Murcar Links, after the third and fourth round matches on Wednesday.

Jack Thomas (Irvine) won the all Ayrshire third round match against Stewart Russell (Kilmarnock Barassie) by 6&5 and will play Craig Howie (Peebles) in round 4 on Thursday morning.

David Wilson (Troon Welbeck), defending the title he won at Dunbar 12 months ago, beat Gregor Cannon (Wigtown & Bladnoch)by 4&3 in his morning third round tie and showed his determination to hang on to the title with a 5&4 win over David Cleland (Hamilton) in their Wednesday afternoon fourth round tie, after Cleland had defeated Callum Gorrie (Kilmarnock Barassie) by 6&5 in round 3. In the last 32, Wilson faces Ryan Walsh (Kirkcaldy) for a place in the last 16.

A victory by 5&3 over Cameron Buist (Dunblane New) in round 3 saw Blair Gavin (Kilmarnock Barassie) through to a fourth round clash with Michael Boddie (Dunbar) which went all the way to the second extra hole before Gavin booked hs place in the last 32, where he will play against Ewan Scott (St Andrews) on Thursday morning.

The remaining Ayrshire players in the competition all bowed out on Wednesday.

Greg Cathie (Irvine) lost by 2&1 to Dominic Dougan (Colville Park)in their third round tie, Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) beat Greg Forrester (Lundin) by 5&4 in their second round clash before losing out to fellow boys internationalist Bradley Neil (Blairgowrie) by 4&3 in round 3, whilst Greg Telfer (Prestwick St Cuthbert) lost in round 2 by 3&2 to Lewis Bain (Turnhouse).

The fourth and fifth round matches are scheduled for Thursday with the quarter finals and semi finals on Friday and final on Saturday.
