A major clubhouse development at Prestwick Golf Club was completed recently, which will greatly enhance the experience at the historic club for visitors and members alike.
The present clubhouse was first built in 1868 and has been extended, improved, and developed on several occasions since, most notably in the early years of the 20th century and latterly in the approach to the club's Sesquecentenary celebrations in 2001.

The original public rooms and locker rooms of the clubhouse remain as traditional as always, while the development of the upstairs level of the clubhouse has been the focus of the latest alterations, and provide an outstanding facility which will serve the members and visitors very well for years to come.
The development has provided new office facilities for staff as well as a magnificent new bar area and dining facility, which features a superb panoramic window which gives unrestricted views over the first tee and the whole golf course, with the only parts of the course not visable from the window being the eighth green and ninth tee areas which are hidden from view from the clubhouse by a large sand dune.

The attention to detail in the newly developed areas are excellent, from the golf ball details on the stairs to the updated, repositioned, and renovated displays throughout the clubhouse, including images of historic scorecards from early Open Championships to the honours boards listing champions of major national and international events held on the Prestwick links.
Along with replicas of The Open Championship Trophy and the Challenge Belt, one of the most notable additions to the displays in the newly refurbished entrance hallway is a portrait, gifted by the R & A, of the driving force behind the foundation of both the club and The Open Championship, James Ogilvy Fairlie of Coodam, who is most appropriately the first image you see when entering the clubhouse, welcoming you to this most historic golfing venue.
The club and all those involved in the latest major develpment at Prestwick Golf Club must be warmly congratulated in providing new and dynamic facilities, while also retaining the traditional ambience of the clubhouse throughout the clubhouse.
As the club celebrated the 175th anniversary of its foundation in 2026, the recent development of the clubhouse is a timely and very positive step forward for the future, keeping the club and it's history at the pinnacle of the game.
