Turnberry and Loudoun retained the two team trophies when the 2026 Ayrshire Junior Team Championship, the traditional opening strokeplay event of the Ayrshire Golf Association season, was held at Prestwick St Cuthbert Golf Club on Sunday the 19th of April.
12 clubs contested the 2026 championship, with the players enjoying a course in fine condition and an event which was blessed with fine weather throughout.
In the premier event for the Matt Lygate Trophy and Ayrshire Junior team Champions title it was the team of Gregor Hay, Findlay Andrew, Archie Baker, and Thomas Carlyle of Turnberry who repeated the club's 2025 success at Girvan by posting a team total of 225 to win the trophy by five shots from Ayr Belleisle.
The Andrew D Nimmo Trophy and handicap Team Champions title was retained by Louodun Gowf Club, the team of Kris Downie, Aran Cowan, Ian Kerr, and Ryan Steel posting a nett team total of 203 to retain the trophy by nine shots from their closest challengers.
The Prestwick Circuits Trophy for the best individual scratch score of the day was won by Mason Chisholm (Irvine) who posted the only sub par score of the championship, his three under par score of 68 winning the trophy by three shots from Findlay Andrew (Turnberry)
The Carrick Trophy was won by Ryan Steel (Loudoun), his nett score of
66 winning the trophy by a single shot from two other players.At the conclusion of the championship Ayrshire Golf Association youth team manager Robert Wilson thnaked prestwick St Cuthbert Golf Club for hosting the event and looking after the players and officials on the day, before presenting the winning teams and individuals with their prizes.
