Holes were exchanged over the closing holes of the outward nine before John slowly reduced the defecit in the match, and briefly took the lead, and ultimately the players stood on the eighteenth tee all square. The momentum appeared to be with John overall at this stage, but to Calum's credit he delivered a final, crucial, blow on the final green, holing a thirty five foot putt for a winning birdie three to secure a single hole victory and his place in the final.
The second semi final was between Harvey Broadfoot and Graeme Gimson (Prestwick St Cuthbert) and it was Harvey that took the early initiative, winning the opening two holes to establish a lead which he never relinquished.
By the time the players reached the thirteenth Harvey had establiched a four hole lead, and when both players narrowly failed with their birdie attempts at the par three, the players moved to the fourteenth with Harvey four ahead with five to play. At the par five fourteenth a fine approach and a brave 20 foot putt from Graeme secured a winning birdie four to reduce the defecit to three, but at the following hole a half in par threes left Harvey dormie three in the match.
At the sixteenth both players were well positioned from the tee and Graeme knew he needed to get his approach close to the hole, cut towards the front of the green, to give him any chance of winning the hole and extending the contest, but in the event he caught his second shot very slightly heavy, which saw the ball fall short and in the burn that crosses the hole in front of the green. When harvey succesfully made the green with his second, which came to rest eighteen feet from the hole, Graeme sportingly conceded the hole and the match to Harvey, whose 4&2 victory saew him into the final.
The final match wil take place at Western Gailes GC on Thursday the 7th of May, teeing off at 4.45 p.m.
