During his involvement with The Ayrshire Golf Association David was heavily involved in the administration of county teams and in particular the boys under 18 team, working closely with the late Morgan Hall of West Kilbride GC in the development of the best juniors in the county.
First elected to The Ayrshire Golf Association executive in 1991, David served his own club Troon Welbeck as junior convenor for many years, served as Club Captain in 1996, and was involved with the Ayrshire boys team when the West of Scotland Inter County Under 18 league competition for The Wishart Trophy was innaugurated in 1994, and lead the team to their first trophy win in the event in 1996 when they clinched the title at beith GC in the final match of the series.
The pinnacle of his time with the Ayrshire Under 18 team came in 1998 when he led the Ayrshire team of Gary Holland, Neil Lockie, Gordon Fraser, and Steven Wallace to Ayrshire's first Scottish Boys Area Team Championship success at Cowglen Golf Club.
David served as Vice president of The Ayrshire Golf Association for a short period, being elected to the post in october 1998 bvefore stepping down from the post and his position within the Ayrshire Golf Association executive the following year.
Sincere sympathy is extended from The Ayrshire Golf Association to David's son Ian, a bronze medallist in the Scottish Amateur Championship at Glasgow Gailes in 1992 and the wider family on their sad loss.
