AYRSHIRE MEN'S CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY - David Currie keeps trophy and title at Royal Troon

David Currie (Royal Troon) kept the Ayrshire Men's Champion of Champions Trophy at Royal Troon, with victory in the 2026 championship final over the Old Course at Royal Troon on Friday the 14th of August, following on from the success of his clubmate Harvey Broadfoot last year.

In the final David was up against James McIntyre (Redburn), with a new champion being guaranteed, with both players appearing in the final for the first time.

The opening two holes were exchanged, with pars being enough to win each, before a great approach by James at the third to five feet set up a winning birdie three to put him one ahead.

A three putt at the fifth from James allowed David to square the match and when james found bunkers at both the sixth and seventh, david took full advantage to establish a two hole lead.

A par four at the ninth was good enough for david to take another hole and establish a three hole lead at the turn.

A great approach shot to the tenth set up a winning par four for James to reduce the defecit to two holes, but a poor tee shot at the eleventh from James resulted in a lost ball and David restored his three hole advantage with seven to play.

With the twelfth hole halved, the pivitol moment of the match came at the thirteenth when David pitched from an awkward hanging  lie in the rough to stone dead, and with James unable to get up david moved four ahead in the match with five to play.

Despite the defecit James hit another quality hybrid shot to pin high at the fourteenth  to reduce the defecit to three after david was unable to get up and down from a bunker, but the end of the match came at the fiteenth when James hit a poor tee shot and bunkered his second in a particularly difficult pot bunker. After two attrempts to extracate his ball from the sane, james conceded the hole and the match to david, who took the title with a 4&3 victory.

In winning the title david Currie became the fifth member from Royal Troon to win the trophy following on from Paul Moultrie (2015), Michael Smyth (2017), Blair Morton (2022) and harvey broadfoot (2025).

At the conclusion of the final Ayrshire Golf Association Past President Andrew Gilligan presented vouchers to both finalists and handed the trophy and commemorative medal over the the 2026 winner, David Currie.
