The Ayrshire Golf community will be saddened to learn the news that former Ayrshire Golf Association Executive member and administrator Allan Muir of Caprington Golf Club passed away on the 18th of March 2025 at the age of 83.
Club Captain at his home club on two occasions, in 1970 and 1980, Allan was a fine golfer in his own right. Though the Club Championship at Caprington eluded him, he played his best golf in an era that coincided with the blossoming career of fellow Caprington and Ayrshire Golf Association legend R. Leslie Crawford.
Allan served on the Ayrshire Golf Association Executive from 2005 until 2020 and was involved in many aspects of The Association's work, most notably in the delivery of the Course Rating scheme in the county which he led with good friend and fellow Caprington member John Rutherford from 2006 until 2019.
Allan was also a 'week kent' face at county competitions where he regularly volunteered to assist in the succesful delivery of the championships.
From 2010 until 2016 Allan also assisted with the administration of the Ayrshire Men's A Team, firstly with fellow Caprington member and A.G.A. Past President Ricky Magee, and latterly with John Rushbury, making many friends throughout the West of Scotland and beyond on the way, and enjoying success during this period when the Ayrshire team won the Scottish Men's Area Team Championship title at Blairgowrie in 2015.
Allan retired from The Ayrshire Golf Association Executive at the 2020 A.G.M., and although he had some health issues in later years he rretained his enthusiasm for the game.
Allan's friends were fortunate to enjoy his company in both formal and informal circumstances, and he will be remembered fondly by all those who were lucky enough to meet Allan in the golfing, and wider community.
Allan was pre deceased by his wife Isobel just a few short weeks ago, and the thoughts of all at The Ayrshire Golf Association, and no doubt from many others in the Ayrshire golfing community and beyond, are with Allan's family and friends at this sad time.
