Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) won the African Amateur
Strokeplay Championship, held at Leopard Creek GC, South Africa from 12th
to 14th February, with a four round total of 277 to give him a three
stroke victory on 11 under par.
Ten under par and with a four shot lead after an eagle on
the closing hole in the third round, Walker set up victory in the final round
with a chip in for an eagle at the thirteenth hole.
In a nervy finish, walker drove into the trees at the final
hole, and laid up with his second before hitting his third onto the green, only
to see it roll back towards the water at the front of the putting surface,
before it came to rest inches from the hazard. A chip stone dead followed and
walker secured a five to win the title.
Euan walker’s African adventure continues next week when he
moves on to take part in the South African Amateur Championship at the King David
Mowbray Golf Club.
