SGU ORDER OF MERIT - McDonald secures title with victory at West Linton

Jack McDonald
Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) secured the 2013 SGU Order Of Merit on Sunday 1st September with victory in the South East District Open at West Linton, his second win in a counting event within a week.

McDonald became the third Ayrshire golfer to win the Order Of Merit, following Steven McEwan in 2008 and Michael Stewart in 2010.

After victory in today’s South East District Open, his second win in the space of a week, Kilmarnock Barassie’s Jack McDonald was tonight crowned the SGU Men’s Order of Merit winner for 2013.

McDonald, last year’s Scottish Amateur Golfer of the Year, carried over the form that won him the North of Scotland Open the previous weekend, to win the South East District Open at West Linton today – and clinch the merit title after the final counting event.

It was McDonald's third 72-hole win of the season, after the 20-year-old’s other victory came at the Tennant Cup earlier in the summer.

In breezy, tough conditions all weekend, McDonald posted rounds of 71, 68, 70 and 71 for a total of four-over-par 280 over the par-69 lay-out.

His only rival for the Order of Merit crown, the 2011 champion James White from Lundin, finished seventh on 286.

McDonald, a member of the SGU Men's Performance Squad, won by a shot from halfway leader Adam Dunton (McDonald Ellon) who had scores of 67, 69, 73 and 72.

In third place on 282 came Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm), with third-round leader Craig Ross (Kirkhill) two strokes further back after a closing 77.
McDonald, the University of Stirling student, succeeds Scott Borrowman (Dollar) as the new Order of Merit champion. White finished runner-up, with Dunton third overall.
