SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Thomson is lone Ayrshire representative in quarter finals

Former champion Allan Thomson (Ayr Belleisle) is the last remaining Ayrshire player in the 2007 Scottish Amateur Championship, being held at Prestwick this week.

Thomson beat 6th seed Jonathon King (Glasgow) by 2 & 1 in the morning 4th round match on Thursday and secured his place in the last eight with a win at the 21st hole in the afternoon against Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh).

The other four Ayrshire players through to the Thursday matches all lost in the morning.

Steven McEwan (Caprington) lost to Shaun McAllister (Craigielaw) by 6 & 4, Euan Brown (Kilmarnock Barassie) lost by 7 & 6 to Keir McNicoll (Carnoustie), Ross Dixon (Kilmarnock Barassie) was beaten 4 & 2 by Wilson Bryson (Drumpellier) and John Shanks (Irvine) went down by 4 & 3 to Chris Heslip (Monifieth).

Thomson tees of in his quarter final, againstScott Borrowman (Dollar) at 0830 on Friday morning.
