SCOTTISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - Four Ayrshire players through to third round after Tuesday matches

Four of the five Ayrshire players who featured in second round matches on Tuesday in the Scottish Amateur Championship at Prestwick have won places in the third round, which takes place on Wednesday.

The only Ayrshire player to exit in the second round so far is John Cairney (Irvine Ravenspark) who lost by 5 & 4 to former Amateur Champion Craig Watson (East Renfrewshire).

James Bunch of the host club needed extra holes to see off the challenge of George Barrie (Callander), winning at the 19th to set up a third round match with Paul O'Hara (Colville Park).

Scottish Boys Internationalist Steven McEwan (Caprington) had a final green win, by two holes, over James Gunn (Royal Dornoch). McEwan now meets rising star Wallace Booth (Comrie) in round 3.

Ayrshire are assured of at least one representative in the last 32 of the competition after Euan Brown (Kilmarnock Barassie) beat Kristian Branum-Burns (Bearwood Lakes) by 6 & 4 , and Kevin Fergusson (Prestwick St. Cuthbert) beat Nicky Gold (Bonnyton) by 6 & 4, to set up a meeting of the two Ayrshire county players in round 3.

The remaining second round and all third round matches will be completed on Wednesday.
