WEST OF SCOTLAND INTER COUNTY UNDER 18 LEAGUE - Ayrshire back on track with victory over Dumbartonshire

The Ayrshire Under 18 team got back to wining ways on Sunday the 2nd of July 2023 with an away victory over Dumbartonshire at Clydebank & District GC in the West of Scotland Inter County Under 18 league, for the Wishart Trophy.

In their second match of the 2023 series, the Ayrshire side won by 6-2 overall, with a clean sweep of the four under 16 ties.

Quintin Dunlop (Turnberry) led the way with a 4&2 victory in the lead match and despite Dylan Scally (West Kilbride) being defeated by 6&5 in the first of the under 18 ties, 6&4 wins by both Jack Broadfoot (Troon Welbeck) and Finlay Watt (West Kilbride) put Ayrshire 3-1 ahead.

Euan Forrest (West Kilbride) ensured at least a drawn match overall for Ayrshire with a fine 3&2 victory in his tie, despite mistakenly leaving his putter at home and having to borrow a rental putter for the round.

Ayrshire just needed a half point from the remaining three ties on the course for an overall victory, and the vital result came from Liam Moran (Irvine) who won the last two holes of a very tight tie for a two hole victory overall, and a fifth point for Ayrshire.

Ollie Long (Kilmarnock Barassie) added Ayrshire's sixth point with a 3&2 victory in his tie, and despite trailing by four holes with five to play, Ryan Kennedy (Irvine) fought back but was just edged out by 2&1 to give a final match score of 6-2 in favour of the visiting Ayrshire team.

Ayrshire's next fixture in the competition is a home tie against Glasgow at Irvine Ravenspark GC on Sunday the 20th of August.
