Two Ayrshire players came close to winning two prestigious
trophies in recent weeks, on the Scottish amateur circuit.

In the 72 hole Battle Trophy at Crail on 21st and
22nd April, Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) was runner up to James
Wilson (Tyneside), after rounds of 68, 67, 74 & 75 gave him a four round
total of 284, 4 under par, to leave him a single shot behind the winner.
Jim Johnston (Ayr Belleisle) finished in sixteenth place on
299 with rounds of 69, 74, 76 & 80, whilst Jack Broun (Ayr Belleisle) was
tied 28th on 305 with rounds of 79, 74, 74 & 78.
The other Ayrshire players in the field missed the cut, Shaun
Hedger (West Kilbride) having rounds of 76 & 81 and Robbie Muir (Kilmarnock
Barassie) scoring 75 & 83.

In the 36 hole Edward Trophy tournament at Glasgow Gailes on
Saturday 28th April, Ayrshire county player Malcolm Pennycott, who now
plays out of Royal Burgess whilst retaining his membership of Whiting Bay, was joint
runner up to the 2018 winner James Wilson (Balmore) who took the trophy by two
strokes with scores of 72 and 70 for a two-under-par total of 142.
Joint runner-up on level part 144 with Malcolm Pennycott was
