With five fixtures still to be played in DIVISION 1 of the
Ayrshire Scratch leagues, Prestwick St Cuthbert have retained the championship
following a 4 – 2 home win over nearest rivals Irvine GC in their latest
fixture, played on Friday18th August, after Irvine had been narrowly beaten 3.5
– 2.5 on their visit to West Kilbride in their previous fixture.
In other matches played recently, Loudoun eased their
relegation worries with a 4.5 – 1.5 win at Turnberry and a 3 – 3 draw at West
Kilbride.
At the foot of the table, any one of four clubs could still
fill the relegation place after all fixtures are completed.

In DIVISION 3, Troon Portland are in pole position with four
fixtures remaining to be played in the division.
A 3.5 – 2.5 win at Kilbirnie Place took the Portland team
above Rowallan Castle at the top of the table, despite suffering defeat by 5.5 –
0.5 at Rowallan Castle in the then league leaders’ final fixture of the
campaign. Girvan had a chance of overtaking Troon Portland after a 6 – 0 home
win over Kilbirnie Place and a 3 – 3 draw at Prestwick St Nicholas, but their
hopes were ended with a 5 – 1 defeat at Caprington.
Caprington also defeated Prestwick St Nicholas 5 – 1 at
home, and with three matches still to play, they can still overtake Troon
Portland at the top of the table.
At the foot of the table, the relegation of Kilbirnie Place
next year was confirmed following their home defeat by Troon Portland.
