GREENLEES TROPHY - Barassie Ladies beat the drop with final match win

The ladies of Kilmarnock (Barassie) beat the drop from Division 1 of the West Of Scotland inter club league competition for the Greenlees Trophy with victory in their final match of the season.

Facing an away trip to play Cochrane Castle, who had won the league and the Greenlees Trophy for the past few seasons, the Barassie ladies knew they needed 4.5 points from a possible 9 to overtake Douglas Park in third bottom place and beat relegation.

In an excellent performance, Barassie managed a 6 - 3 win to secure their place in the first division for 2009, whilst at the same time sending the defending champions, Cochrane Castle, into Division 2 as one of the two relegated teams.

Local clubs Troon Ladies, Prestwick St. Nicholas and Kilmarnock barassie will now be joined in the top flight next season by West Kilbride after they secured one of the promotion places from Division 2.
