WEST OF SCOTLAND BOYS LEAGUE - Ayrshire gain away win over Renfrewshire

The Ayrshire boys team beat Renfrewshire 4.5 - 3.5 at Erskine on Sunday (24 July) in the latest match in the West Of Scotland inter county league for the Wishart Trophy.

Despite the absence of a number of players, due to the Scottish Amateur Championship commencing on Monday at Southerness, Ayrshire put up an excellent performance to gain a notable win.

Kyle Smith (Barassie), winner of the Under 16 trophy in last weeks Scottish Boys Strokeplay Championship, had an epic tussle with Michael dailly of the host club. A putt which lipped out on the 17th hole saw Smith surrender his lead, but he showed his mettle on the final green, holing a difficult downhill 7 foot putt for a one hole victory.

In the lead match, Fraser Lawrie (Largs) and Colin Thomson (East Renfrewshire) traded holes throughout, and secured a deserved half match on the final green.

Renfrewshire secured an early lead by taking the second game, but wins in games 3 through to 6 was sufficient to secure the match for Ayrshire, despite defeats in the final two games.
