US COLLEGE GOLF - Linzi Allan's encouraging start to season


Linzi Allan from Dalry, a Freshman student at Newman University in Wichita, Kansas, finished joint 35th in a field of 88 players at the St Edwards Invitational played over the Par 70 (6,018yrds) Grey Rock Golf Club, Austin in Texas.

Linzi recovered from an opening round 89 (+18) to post a second round of 78 (+7) to settle for a 167 (+25). Alyssa Balding (Northumberland) posted back-to-back rounds of 82 to lead the Jets with a 36-hole total of 164 and was placed 21st.

As a team, the Jets finished eighth out of 17 teams with a team score of 671. Newman finished five strokes behind seventh-placed Angelo State, but held a two-stroke advantage on ninth-placed Central Oklahoma. Tarleton State won the event with a team score of 620.

Linzi and her team, The Jets, continue their season from March 14 at Pottsboro, Texas, in the Texas A&M-Commerce Spring Classic.
