AYRSHIRE Vs SOUTH OF SCOTLAND - Defeat for hosts in opening match of the season

Ayrshire suffered defeat at the hands of the South Of Scotland in their opening match of the season, at Girvan on Sunday 21st March.

The match for the Presidents Trophy, which had not been played for three years due to a series of postponements and abandoned matches, was succesfully completed this year, with the teams of 12 from each area consisting of 4 youth players, 4 under 18 players and 4 under 16's.

In the morning foursomes the South Of Scotland team took a 3.5 - 2.5 advantage, with the youths ties being shared and the visitors taking both Under 18 ties as well as one of the Under 16 ties, with the remaining one being halved.

In the afternoon, Ayrshire started well, taking three of the four youths ties and halving the remaining one, but the South Of Scotland fought back in the Under 18 and Under 16 ties, some excellent putting at crucial stages in a number of the ties contributing to 6 wins and two halved ties over the Under 16 and Under 18 series.

In the end, the South Of Scotland team ran out comfortable winners of the match by 11 - 7 to take the Presidents Trophy for 2010
