HIGHLAND WOMANS OPEN - Gilbertson wins Atholl Cup for fourth time

Robina Gilbertson (Prestwick St. Nicholas) won the premier trophy in the Highland Womens Open, the Atholl Cup, when the championship was played at Pitlochry this week.

The Atholl Cup is the scratch matchplay trophy awarded at the event, and this win is the fourth occasion Gilbertson has taken the premier trophy in the event.

Gilbertson started the week by qualifying for the matchplay in second place on 155, just one stroke behind leading qualifier Louise Fraser (Kingsknowe)

In the first round of matchplay, Gilbertson met local member Margaret Macrae whom she beat by 4 & 3 to progress to the quarter finals, where she dispatched Kathleen Duncan, also of the host club, by 3 & 2.

A 2 & 1 win over Sal Shepherd (Craigmillar Park) in the semi finals set up a final match against Claire Capocci (Bridge Of Allan) whom Gilbertson beat by 4 & 3 to take the title.
