WELSH OPEN STROKEPLAY - Final round crash ends hopes of Mcknight.

All his hard work over the opening three round of the Welsh Amateur Championship at Conwyn this week came to nothing for Robert McKnight (Caprington) when a final round 82 saw him drop from a serious contender to an ultimate 14th place in the event.

In difficult conditions over the first three rounds, scores of 70, 77 & 75 saw McKnight elevated to a best position of third, before the final round took its toll and gave him a four round total of 304 (+16).

The only other Ayrshire player in the field, Steven McEwan (Caprington) finished in 20th place on 308 (73/80/77/78).

Chris Wood (Long Ashton) won the championship by one shot, with a 289 (+ 1) total, comprising rounds of 74, 75, 69 & 71.
