DOC THOM AYRSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT - First title for Stuart Robin

Despite being edged out into third place in the final qualifying event, Stuart Robin (Prestwick St Nihcolas) had the satisfaction of doing more than enough to take the Doc Thom Salver and Ayrshire Order Of Merit title on Saturday 21st September.

Playing over his home course in the Arrol Cup, Robin finished in a three way tie at the top on 138, but was edged into third place by virtue of the worst second round score.

The only other Ayrshire player to secure points was former winner Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) who shared sixth place, but agonisingly only gave him enough points to secure fourth place in the table.

US COLLEGE GOLF - Walker continues good form

Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) has continued his good early form since his move to study in Missouri, finishing in the runner up spot in a recent event.

Euan Walker from Ayrshire, in one of his first competitions as a student at the University of Missouri, finished joint second and helped his college to take the team honours in the Columbia Regional Preview over 54 holes at The Club @ Old Hawthorne, Columbia in Missouri.

Walker, pictured, shot 73, 66 and 71 for a six-under-par total of 210 over a longish course of 7,221yd with a par of 72.

He finished two shots behind team-mate  Emilio Cuartero who scored 68, 67 and 70 for 205.

England's Seb Crookall Nixon, a student at San Francisco University, finished T9 in a field of 65 players. He shot 74-70-71 for 215.

Londoner Ross Dixon, a junior (third year) student at Nebraska, finished T22 on 222 with rounds of 74, 76 and 72.

Missouri (852) won the team event from Iowa State (857) with Austin Peay State (870) third and San Francisco (876) fourth in a field of 11 teams. 

AYRSHIRE GOLF ASSOCIATION AGM - Initial notices sent to clubs

The 2013 Ayrshire Golf Association AGM will be held at Caprington Golf Club, Kilmarnock, on

MONDAY 21st OCTOBER 2013 at 7.00pm

Initial agenda notices and copies of the 2012 minutes have been forwarded to all club secretaries by email.

Any club who has not received the notice and minutes is requested to contact the Secretary by email and a further copy will be sent.

With two of the present Executive members due to step down, but both seeking re election, there remains a further five vacancies on the Executive, including three posts for three years and two posts for two years.

Clubs are requested to encourage interested members to make contact with the Secretary or Executive members for more information if they wish to consider being nominated for the vacant posts.

Under the constitution, Nominees must be members of and must be proposed and seconded by members of clubs affilliated to the Ayrshire Golf Association.
The work of The Association Executive is varied and encompasses, amongst other things, Competitions, Course rating, handicapping, team administration at all age groups, rules and working with the National body and local agencies in the promotion of golf in the county.
All nominations for Executive posts require to be in the hands of The Secretary, in writing, by 12^th OCTOBER 2013 at the latest.  

AYRSHIRE JUNIOR GOLF EAGUE - New final dates confirmed

Due to the weather conditions last weekend, the scheduled Ayrshire Junior Golf League finals at Ayr Belleisle were cancelled.

The finals will now take place this weekend, 21 & 22 September and on Sunday 6th October.

The finals Schedules, all to be played at Ayr Belleisle, are :-

GREENLEES TROPHIES - Promotion joy for Prestwick St Nicholas ladies

Prestwick St Nicholas Ladies produced a storming finish to the season to win promotion to Division 1 of the West Of Scotland Ladies Inter Club League for the Greenlees Trophy for next season.

The St Nicholas team produced successive 7 - 2 wins in their last two home fixtures, against Bothwell Castle and Old Ranfurly, to take the runner up spot in Division 2 and gain promotion to the top league for 2014.
