AYRSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT TITLES - Smyth and Milligan take 2017 awards

Michael Smyth (Royal Troon) and Ewan Milligan (Kilmarnock Barassie) are the winners of the Doc Thom Ayrshire Order Of merit and the Ayrshire Junior Order Of Merit respectively, after the final qualifying competitions were completed at Prestwick St Nicholas recently.

Michael Smyth won the final qualifying event, The Arrol Cup, for the first time on 10^th September to move ahead of long-time leader Scott Brown (Prestwick St Cuthbert) and take the Doc Thom Salver for 2017.

Jim Johnston (Ayr Belleisle) was the only other local player to pick up points at The Arrol Cup, his runner up spot a shot behind Smyth being enough to move him up into third place in the Order Of merit table.

In the Ayrshire Junior Order Of Merit, a clash with the last qualifying competition at Prestwick St Nicholas and some Ayrshire Junior Golf League finals resulted in the top three players in the Order Of merit not taking part in the final qualifying event, where Alyx Murray (Troon Welbeck) took top spot and maximum points with a scratch score of 69. 

A third place in the final event moved Ruben Lindsay (Ayr Belleisle) into third place in the table, behind the Kilmarnock (Barassie) duo of Ewan Milligan and Ross McDonald.
